Buc-ee’s

I mean, I was close to having no choice when he didn’t answer his phone. But doing that would have hurt me just as much as him, so it’s not like there was a reason to do it if unnecessary.

I was expecting to run into more of these, but I guess there aren’t many on the I-40. Finally found a couple in Tennessee. Pretty interesting place - nice for a break from the car.

The newest biggest one just opened relatively near my sister and dad. The stat being covered in the news, other than sq footage, is that it has 120 gas pumps. Maybe I’ll go next time I visit.

I think in general they are further south than I-40 but I heard there’s one in Springfield, MO, which is north of 40.

I still don’t see the appeal. Too crowded and the long lines make it not a quick road trip stop. My sisters love it but they are more into fads.

The few times I have stopped at one there may have been people but not a line at the register or pumps. In terms of crowded I’d give it 0.05 NJT units.

Same. I’ve only been 2 or 3 times. The place was busy with activity, but register lines weren’t bad.

We are getting one. Nothing to write home about imo :woman_shrugging: but people are excited

Never been to one.

Been to several places in Texas (Houston, Austin, College Station) but we never stopped at a gas station like that one.

I have never been there when there wasn’t a line.

I don’t think I’ve even driven past one when there wasn’t a line.

I’m hoping to hit one next time I’m south in the U.S. Yeah, because it’s a fad. It’s different and we don’t have them in Canada.
I once drove quite a bit out of the way to hit a white castle. Most repulsive food ever, everyone in my family gave me crap for taking them there… But hey, I’ve been to a white castle now.

Haha. White Castle IS terrible. Buc-ee’s is a must stop if only for the bathroom experience. Sorry ladies, there may be a line, but it is the fastest moving restroom line in the world.

Bathroom experience and line aren’t really things that go together for a must stop idea.

Bathroom experience and cleanest bathrooms really go together, though. Imo they exceed McD and modern truckstops by quite a bit.

Hmmm, we drove past one with 120 gas pumps today and did not stop. Stopped instead at one that has “about 120 pumps”. Uh… what’s with “about”???

I did not count them. Went inside and was overwhelmed with the vast sea of humanity… not in a good way. Very long line for the ladies room, although it did move at a decent clip.

There were two employees directing traffic in the ladies room and a third whose sole job appeared to be cleaning the ladies room.

BF could not find a place to park and circled the place waiting for me after he finished gassing up. Good price on the gas. He did not end up going inside although I think he would have liked to check it out, had that been an option. I mean, I offered to switch places with him and circle the place while he went in, but he didn’t want to. He could tell that I was not exactly in love with the place.

I do not ever need to go to a Buc-ees again. It was a thoroughly unpleasant experience, other than the price of the gas. Maybe if it was like 2 AM and less crowded.

I’d take a Love’s over Buc-ees any day of the week and twice on Sunday. Bathrooms are just as clean, and I don’t exactly need multiple people directing traffic in the ladies room to enhance my experience.

Is there something else about the bathrooms that make it an “experience”?

I mean, it was difficult to get from point A to point B. I guess that’s an experience but a decidedly bad one.

Hard pass.

Just reconnecting with Mini Me after we used separate stalls was extremely stressful, and she did what she always does which is wait for me right at the entrance to the restroom. But I still couldn’t find her.

Mini Me also hated it and requested that we not go back.

This decision to go to one seems very un-twig like. Sounds like you were there long enough to charge up an EV.

Only because the line for the ladies room was long and then it took a bit to find Mini Me even though she was precisely where she was supposed to be.

From the time we secured a pump until she & I were waiting for BF to pick us up was probably 12 minutes. Maybe 15 but I doubt it. Which is longer than I would have liked but I don’t think that’s enough for a full or even an 80% charge on most EVs these days.

I prefer to be stopped under 10 minutes.

Also this was a MUCH shorter drive than some I do. Only 300 miles, which is easy peasy. A 15 minute stop would have been ok, but being inside was so incredibly unpleasant that I wanted to get out of there and back in the car as soon as possible.

Maybe the better question is if you are still talking to your BF after being subjected to stop on a road trip that could have enabled driving an EV. You better show him the EV thread on GOA soon or have a talk with him about this.
