A. 2 diamonds. Will bid 2S if 2H comes back to me. Close with 1S.
B. 4 spades. With partner as a passed hand making a 3 level double, think club stiff is very likely. This is what I would bid at the table, expect 4C might score better.
C. 3 spades. 2D can be many hands so 2S shows spades but does not set trumps, so I need to. No second choice for me.
D. Double. A good partner won’t bid 3D.
E. 1 spade. Could be convinced 1NT is better.
F. (b) 1NT.
G. Double. Am I supposed to be tempted by 2NT?
H. Diamond 2. I want to make RHO think a ruff is looming and not take any safety play in trumps. This seems like the best shot at that.

We now have a choice with at least 3 votes in all except one of the problems. That gives us leaders in 5 of 8, since 2 problems have 3-3 ties. Only 3 problems have a choice with at least 4 supporters.

I’ve been thinking about that D2 lead. The question is whether declarer will worry that it is a singleton or will think that it is an oddly passive lead (leading through dummy’s first bid suit). In the latter case, he is going to cater to you having a surprise in trumps to justify the passive lead.

Still pondering which is more likely.

b. 3d
c. 6s
d. double

oirg resolved all three of the unresolved ones, but then created a tie on H.

Based on the discussion updating some of my understanding, I would update mine to:

A: 2D
B: 4S
C: 3S
D: 2NT
E: Double
F: c2
G: Double
H: Club Jack

I’m going to change my vote on H to the D2. I’m not actually sure whether it’s better than the D8. I’m worried about partner miscounting the hand and discarding wrong. But since partner doesn’t have anything, weird discards might be a good head fake.

I thought about changing my vote on A to 2D, but I am going to stick with 1N. I have a CK to protect, and 1N gets my strength across better than 2D (and I agree the hand isn’t really worth 2C, especially not when it gives LHO a free double). I can bid diamonds later and partner will know my support looks more like xxx.

Scoring not very generous this month. My 720 would have tied for 16-21 on the honor roll. It took 690 to make it.

A Pass. We need to provide a trick for game, and I don’t think we can.
B 3N. It’s close between this and 5C (and 5C would be fine if 3N weren’t available), but if partner has values, 3N defines my hand better for him, and it’s only 50 a trick if it gets passed out and they lead the right suit. (No way am I opening 1C…I might try a one-level opening with eight solid and out in some other suit, but not clubs.)
C 3D. Enough to make a positive move, so I can’t bid 3C, which would be weaker. This is my most descriptive bid at the three level, and I won’t go past 3N.
D 2N. Best of a bad lot. 2D is too much of an overbid. I sure wish I were playing KSU, where 1N is all weak hands, so that 2C promises 9-11 highs. If partner’s 1S rebid promised an unbalanced hand, I would rebid 3C, but in BWS it doesn’t even suggest an unbalanced hand.
E 5C. Second choice 4C. But all I need to make 5 is an ace and a little luck?
F 2H. Assuming partner has something in hearts, we are the ones overruffing diamonds and clubs. Not bidding diamonds, because RHO usually has 5+ of them on this auction. Most likely distribution is 3=2=5=3 on my right, 4=3=1=5 on my left, and 4=3=1=5 with partner. Since we are vulnerable, I can accept having passed last round. Not vul, that would have been nuts.
G 2C. How does partner ever evaluate his hand if I don’t start here? Control card and club quacks are all that matter. A hand with this source of tricks is too good for 3N, and neither 2N nor 4D describe it well.
H HQ. I hate how much this depends on the opponents’ system. But in BWS, this is how RHO had to bid 3=3=4=3 with a heart stopper. So it’s less likely he has four hearts than against many players. And if he has just Axx, I really need partner to drop the J.

A: Pass
B: 3NT
C: Pass. 2D also seems reasonable, but more likely to be an overstep.
D: 2D, give him a chance to show secondary support for my hearts.
E: 4C
F: 2H. Why not bid 1H last time around?
G: Pass.
H: HQ. SJ and D5 also seem reasonable.

B) 3N
C) 3N
D) 2D
E) 4C
F) Pass
G) 2C
H) Heart 8

A. P. Not sure of the conditions. What would 2S by doubler have been? Also natural? If 2S would be natural, then this is very close to going on, val at imps and with the heart Q. In fact, it’s close no matter what 2S is. But I’m going to pass
B. 3NT. By far the best description
C. 3NT. 5C could be better, but could also be worse. Do we think 3C would be forcing? I’m afraid it would not.
D. 3C. Awful, but don’t think anything else is better.
E. 4C.
F. 2H. Reasonable hope of support from partner. Second choice 2D, but I think our chances in hearts are too good for that. Partner better remember I passed over 1D.
G. 3S. Too good for 3NT. OOPS. That was a typo, obviously. My intent was 3H, a limit raise, as opposed to a preemptive raise.
H. Heart K. Unanimous, at imps? Or should it be the Q, to find out if partner has the J? Or even small, in case declarer has a double stopper and preventing him from holding up on round 1? I think best to start K or Q, in case dummy has J or Jx. Not likely to beat it if opps have two stoppers.

A) Pass. I honestly don’t see an alternative.
B) 3NT. I always played this as 7 or 8 cards back in the day. But it fits almost perfectly.
C) 3D. Forcing, describes nature of my hand. I don’t mind 3NT or 3C either though, but I think my hand is worth enough tricks that it is worth gambling on game, so 3C is a third choice.
D) 3C. Shows invitational strength. 2NT would also be okay.
E) 4C. I wish I had bid 2C at my second call instead of 1S.
F) Pass. Partner surely has the black suits. I deem it more likely that opps missed game than that we missed a red-suit partscore.
G) 3NT sounds good, although generally that shows only a single trick.
H) SJ. HQ a close second choice.
