When I told her the Moon has gravity and the Sun has A LOT of gravity she told me I was kidding so when I told her that even she has a little bit of Mary gravity she really thought I was kidding I think

When I was in high school, our teacher talked about how all matter has gravity. She asked the class “have you ever noticed when you walk next to a really tall building you feel a slight pull toward it?”. Some kids started nodding. She then said “that doesn’t happen”. Funny enough I still remember 25 years later.

We are indeed accelerating.
There is centripetal acceleration though the center of the spinning axis.
Plus, acceleration is Δv which is either a change in magnitude (speed) or direction. We are constantly changing direction along the rotation of the earth. Therefore we are accelerating.
Plus, the earth is accelerating around the sun…
When I teach that part I usually get up on a chair and tell the students to watch reallllly carefully when I jump off to see that the earth jumps up to meet me. 
Then I try to get across to them how mind-bogglingly large the mass of earth is. Hope it sticks with some of them.
My son had an incredible touchdown catch in flag football yesterday. Then he dropped a dime as QB on a TD throw later in the game. Tight spiral, prolly 25 yards in the air, hit the kid in stride.

My oldest found out yesterday that they were earned a $20K scholarship to their school of choice. They now have an opportunity to have full tuition covered.

TIL, it seems like what you feel is acceleration, but since ground, you, air, etc are all accelerating together your relative acceleration is 0 (aka you’re all spinning together) and so you don’t feel it?
Has nothing to do with “feeling it.” If you are changing direction, you are accelerating.
Okay, then how do you explain the fact that we don’t feel the Earth spinning?
Obvs not a brag on you parent’s physics knowledge thread. Objects on the surface of a spinning object do in fact, undergo acceleration.

Quick google gives : The centripetal acceleration is about 3.39 cm/sec^2 at the equator (I’m getting this number from the CRC Handbook of Chemistry and Physics), which is about 0.35% the acceleration of gravity at the surface of the earth, g.
3.39 vs 980. Higher latitudes may be less, I am guessing.
