Our youngest just got married. He says it will save him $16k+ in income taxes. (He’s a well-paid cybersecurity engineer.)
My wife bought the Lululemon bag for our daughter many years ago so she had no choice but to recommend it!
Is that the same company your son worked with?
Yes, thanks for asking.
My son had various jobs at the same company. He set up their regional offices in KL and Glasgow, recruited guides throughout SE Asia and oversaw their client services at the Head Office in Vancouver before his biking accident.
Like his sister (and dad) he was an avid traveller when he was younger. He was also able to spend extended periods of time working for his company in Europe and various Asian countries. Despite his current physical and cognitive challenges, he is still able to travel but it is now of a much less adventurous nature and requires a local support network.
5 yo grandson
riding on an old carousel (circa 1912) and the whole time he is staring up at the mechanism, which he proudly explains to his parents
we took him to the drive thru Christmas light show. When we see the giant elves waving and welcoming us, we comment “look how their arms move”
to which he replies “they aren’t moving, there is a dark area, that lights up, when the light area goes dark”
maybe i am putting too much to it, but thinking he has a pretty mechanical/ engineering mind. or is it all normal?
I’d say that’s pretty advamced for a kid that age. He definitely seems interested in how things work.
He sounds exceptional in a good way. He is a bit like my 5 year old granddaughter but she is fascinated with science rather than engineering (maybe because her dad is a chemistry teacher and has sparked her interest). I have never seen anyone as interested in science although I wanted to be an astronomer when I was five years old but settled on being an actuary instead.
i was born to be an actuary. very gifted mathematically, particularly arithmetic.
and i see things in him, like if you ask him how many cars he is playing with, he doesn’t count them off as i would expect most kids to do, but he mentally does it and just sees seven cars.
Beat his dad playing a Concentration-like matching game (80 cards)
My daughter was always weirdly interested in genetics from a young age. She ended up going to school with the intentions of dentistry. Halfway through, she came home, said she hates dentistry and is going into genetics. Me: facepalm,.of course you should be in genetics. She’s now in genetics and loving it.
21 yo sang “Oh, Holy Night” at tonight’s Christmas Eve service. She nailed it. Inquire via PM if you’d like to hear it.
That is my favorite traditional Christmas song.
21 yo sang “Gesù bambino” at today’s Christmas Day service. She nailed it. Inquire via PM if you’d like to hear it.
Her: You see me packing my camping gear-- tent, water, and rations. I made a map of where I want to go!
Me: But we’re not going camping! I’m lying in bed and mama is taking a bath.
Her: But granny is driving me, we’re going to see the moonlight jellyfish and silver sharks. Their latin names are lineaus jellyish, and sivera sharkera.
Me: Whoa, that sounds dangerous… Maybe you shouldn’t go.
Her: The moonlight jellyfish have no sting, and the silver sharks vegetarian. Actually they’re mammals, they’re only called sharks because they look like sharks.
Me: Well, I’m looking at your map, the water is 50 miles away. I hope you brought food, it’s going to be a long hike!!
Her: Sure, but that’s why were taking the car. See how the road goes there.
Me: No, the road only goes 10 miles, we’ll have to hike the other 40 miles.
Her: You’re confusing miles for Caraquas, which are 1/5th mile each.
Me: I’m pretty sure they’re 1/2 mile each actually!
Her: Actually I drew the map all wrong. I was copying it from the computer, but if you look at the original, you can see the road goes all the way to the pond.
(etc.)
Mini T-2 was just accepted into a Physicians Assistant program. The University happens to be 4 miles from me.
Congrats! Is she planning on going there or is she still weighing other options?
This was the only University to offer it. She applied at like 10 schools. The other 9 didn’t select her for the onsite. She was just here over the weekend for the on site interview. 40 spots, 80 students. Pretty dam proud dad right now.
Awesome! Well enjoy having her nearby for the duration of the program. Hope she loves it!
Congrats! That’s a huge accomplishment. Is she moving in with you? Not like she’ll have any time to do anything outside of school and studying anyway, so might as well save some money.
Yes. She’ll move in with me. She’s lived with her mom the past 7 years, so this is another awesome for me.
