A driver sped down Bourbon street in the wee hours this morning, killing at least 10 and injuring at least 35. After crashing he died in a shootout with police. Yet another recent example of using a vehicle as a weapon against a crowd.
The FBI has identified the suspect in Wednesday’s deadly crowd attack in New Orleans as 42-year-old Shamsud-Din Jabbar of Texas. He is reportedly an army veteran. An ISIS flag was found in his vehicle.
According to an FBI statement, other potential explosive devices were found in the French Quarter separate from where the man rammed into a crowd.
“We do not believe that Jabbar was solely responsible,” Alethea Duncan, FBI assistant special agent in charge, said at a news conference Wednesday.
The Sugar Bowl has been postponed until tomorrow.
Despite this guy apparently being American, FOX and Trump are ginning up some anti immigrant rhetoric.
Fox said the truck was seen entering the country via Eagle Pass 2 days ago. They’ve already retracted that, but the damage was done. Officials indicate it was rented via Turo in Houston Texas.
Trump on the attack: “When I said that the criminals coming in are far worse than the criminals we have in our country, that statement was constantly refuted by Democrats and the Fake News Media, but it turned out to be true.”
Doesn’t matter that he was American, he had a funny name.
In a now-removed YouTube video for one of these businesses posted four years ago, Jabbar says he was born and raised in Beaumont, Texas, and spent all his life in the state except for his time in the military. He said his 10 years in the military is “where I learned the meaning of great service and what it means to be responsive and take everything seriously, dotting i’s and crossing t’s, to make sure that things go off without a hitch. “
Ugh
Very sad. Not the best way to ring in the new year
Terrible incident. The surname is what people will focus on. At least he didn’t arrive via Canada or Mexico with the rhetoric that would produce by Trump.
I hope they find the other participants.
First IS attack in the US in a long time. Hopefully they are not actively recruiting a lot of people here, and this is just a one off of yet another sad dude who decides it’s easier to kill 20 people than live a good life.
Plenty of better options.
He could die alone by his own hand.
Vegas explosion today may also be one.
Trump “truthed” the following before the domestic origin of the attack was publicized. It’s still up.
The renter of the cybertruck has been identified as an active duty member of Us special forces command. If it is later confirmed that he is the driver/dead body in the truck, it seems like military folks view violence as a means to express discontent. Whoda thunk it?
FBI now says Jabbar was a lone wolf and did the attack solo
Let’s not go all anti-military on this. Most veterans with issues are MUCH more prone to self-harm than this type of thing.
IDK about the guy who rented the Cybertruck but the NO guy was apparently radicalized online and his life had been in the toilet for a while. Prime candidate for this type of thing, and it doesn’t take military training to drive a car into a crowd.
Its honestly a good thing he wasn’t a combat engineer. I shudder to think what one of those guys could put together if they were suicidal and wanted to take a bunch of people with them.
Yeah. Can’t help but notice the hr/it guy killed over a dozen people and the Green Beret failed to kill anyone.
Agreed that our terrorists are not usually soldiers, and that’s good, given how deadly they can be.
Well, at least after January 20, the US should be safe from this type of attack.
