TIL Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen are not identical twins. I theorize people just expected her to look more like Ashley, who looks a bit younger but only because her facial structure is more.. round.
Yeah they are fraternal, but they used to look identical. They don’t anymore. Something happened to Mary Kate’s face.

They jointly put out this statement after Saget died:
Just mostly unfunny jokes at a roasting of Bob Saget by his friends that were all jokes about Mary kate and Ashley and a few off comments by Bob Saget himself about them, but nothing particularly conclusive.
It’s possible that Mary kate and Ashley are just fine with Bob Saget and the child star life in general damaged them.

So is it a case of stardom damaging the kids, or only kids who are damaged becoming stars?
Acting is a craft. It takes talent, real talent. Just like professional athletes make their sport look easy, great actors make acting look easy. They make it look like you could do it. Are damaged people better actors? (I’ll let Johnny Depp and Amber Heard answer that question).
There are plenty of kids who act, some hit big stardom and it doesn’t seem to destroy them. There are plenty of kids who act, hit big stardom and then are damaged by it. (it’s not that terribly different than from NFL, NBA, MLB athletes). Some great athletes thrive, others blow up.

The olsen twins got into acting when they were like 9 months old. They obviously weren’t talented actresses at 9 months old to say that damaged people go into acting. They were cute on the show and had good representation to keep that going.
They got the job because they were cute babies who were twins and didn’t cry too much.
You should also consider the parents when it comes to child actors. Especially in cases like the olsens.

You’re right about that example. Dylan and Cole Sprouse got into acting at 6 months. They’re still at it and seem to be doing fine. There are examples going all ways.
And not every great actor is damaged. Some really damaged people are great actors. Some really great actors are also really decent people. My Johnny Depp/Amber Heard comment was made half in jest due to the craziness of the daily testimony coming out of that trial.
My main point is that childhood acting stardom doesn’t damage everybody.
Oh I know. Candace Cameron was on the same show and she seems fine.
I looked at her wikipedia page, and she suffered bulimia in her 20s.
I was joking a bit about acting damaging every kid. The harry potter kids seem to have turned out fine as another example.
But it must be tough. Jobs have a transactional nature to them that can be dehumanizing if you let your self worth get tied up in them too much. How can a kid on a hit show not be in danger of doing that?

I think the Olsen twins just made so much money and their fashion brand got so big that they don’t have to work in the entertainment industry anymore. Their fashion house in NY is known as one of the most prestigious in the US and they are by far the wealthiest people to come out of Full House.
Interesting that we think 2 very successful independently wealthy women who run their own business are maladjusted or something is wrong with them.
