At what point do you leave a failing country?

Must be hard to leave paradise.

Many years ago, New Zealand went through a similar out migration with many people moving to Australia. The PM at the time was questioned as to whether they were concerned about so many New Zealanders moving to Australia and the brain drain effect it was having on NZ. The PM replied something to the effect of “he wasn’t concerned as every New Zealanders leaving NZ for Australia made both countries smarter”.

Those wealthy Americans are now going to have to contend with a much harsher immigration policy from the UK.

This is due to Reform and their performance in the local elections. It has spooked Labour.

You will now mostly need to have 10 years of residency (used to only be 5 to get ILR) to get permanent residency in the UK. There are a few carveouts for higher skilled jobs in strategic areas.

But your language is so different!

It has spooked Labour.

See??

Not to mention the food.

I am trilingual (I speak Canadian, American and English) so would have no trouble passing the English-speaking test if we decide to live out our remaining days in the Mother Country. Although Portugal is a more appealing option.

Whatchoo toque-ing about, Cooksie?

Huh?

I was trying to make a pun on TALK vs TOQUE when you said that you spoke Canadian and 'Murican, but I guess my joke fell as flat as a dropped bag of milk.

And I said “huh” to show I knew the American equivalent of “eh”. Both our feeble jokes failed badly.

What other Americanisms do you guys make fun of? (And what do you use instead of you guys)?

From the Telegraph no less. I am sensing a vibe shift on the right in the UK that is looking for scapegoats as the UK economy deteriorates.

Sigh. What really irks is that the problems that demographics and mass immigration are causing the UK were predictable. Large problems grow from smaller problems because they get ignored. You have to move to mitigate the smaller problems early on in order to reduce the residual risks to the economy.

Those of us that raised the alarm more than a decade ago can only say we told you so

Now, they are mostly trapped due to economics and politics, so its no doubt going to be a very turbulent decade for UK politics as people get very angry as they get poorer.

Just use the solution from Logan’s Run.

The nauseating patriotism and general ignorance of the world.

The American claims to exceptionalism.

I agree Americans are exceptional but that doesn’t always equate with better. And many claims to exceptionalism are actually things that other nations also have or do better.

Most of the good things claimed by Americans about America are not actually unique to America. But many of the bad things are unique to it.

We are also breathtaking.

America is exceptional at one thing…super-sized fast food.

No other country compares.

And…the UK is back to the 70s.

Strikes, Strikes, and more Strikes.

Sounds like the UK needs Thatcher 2.0
