At what point do you leave a failing country?

If the feds start disappearing citizens who are critics, I imagine a few folks will be inclined to migrate.

Or maybe when they start forcing fertile women into red robes…

Visited Nelson about 25 years ago. Beautiful spot. Hope to visit again soon.

Will be going to this protest in September.

We all have to start pushing back harder against Trump’s authoritarian behavior.

My daughter and her partner will be going but I hope they leave their toddler at home. My wife and I would go as well but I expect we may have returned to Canada too early in September. I still can’t believe he is getting another UK state visit.

Canada hosts the G7 leaders meeting in mid-June in Alberta. It will be in Kanaskis so I doubt protesters will be able to get anywhere near it. Trump may not even show up? The only public venue I could see him attending is the Petroleum Club in Calgary.

If I remember correctly, Nelson was the backdrop to the Steve Martin movie Roxanne.

His kind of guys!!

I would be very careful accepting any immigration pathway into the US built by Trump.

What we have here is a US President that cannot recognise reality, so he could literally change his mind on anything at the drop of a conversation with a random person.

As expected, the UK is turning to the right in some of the local elections as the economic situation deteriorates and the populists blame the immigrants for the countries problems.

What amazes me is that people in the UK are dumb enough to vote for the stupidity of Farage and his backers (their candidates are about as low IQ as you can get).

These guys are not quite at MAGA level of stupid…but its getting closer to that every year now.

So I should immediately go out and trade my pickleball paddle for a hockeystick and start getting used to ketchup on potato chips now, “A”?

Please, please keep him. We don’t need him around, anyhow.

So goooooood!!! :yum:

If you can find it, you can do better.

In light of the 50th anniversary of the end of the Vietnam War, the NY Times interviewed many Americans who left the USA for Canada during the 60s and 70s. Very few returned to the US even though Jimmy Carter extended a pardon and invitation to them to come home in 1977.

Nine out of the ten people profiled in the article fled to British Columbia so I understand why they stayed here! Their stories are interesting.

I don’t expect an exodus of Americans to Canada during the Trump reign as it takes a personal threat to persuade most folks to leave their home country. Some folks will feel threatened but not to the level of the Vietnam War era.

This quote may not age well. I hope you are correct.

Good news is that Canada will be warmer than it was in the 60s and 70s.

Graduate employment market has turned this year after the April tax increases (made it more expensive to employ graduates)

Highest % of NEETs out of work on record now.

Its crazy taxing employment more, as its obvious that you are going to get less of it once you do so at the less experienced end.

The UK really is failing its young at all levels. Its depressing.
