At what point do you leave a failing country?

I didn’t realize living in tents was a big thing in London.

Corrected it to rents! Although tents are probably expensive too.

Just on the back-end of this post…

They are now so broke in Bristol that they are planning on collecting bins only every 4 weeks.

Thats just not sustainable. The stench in the summer will be really bad.

Crikey! Our household went a bit crazy when we missed a pickup (MLK Day mixup) and had to wait a whole two weeks between pickups.

I am not sure that the US loss of trade is going to be as bad as this…

The UK seems stuck in stagflation, which is feeding the populists.

Labour is now in real danger of becoming a one term party.

Four weeks!? We have two pick ups a week which seems just about right

Once a week here. It’s fine during the winter but I have to time when I make chicken around the trash pick up schedule in the summer

Vancouver does pickups every two weeks in winter, weekly the rest of the year. Seems to work fine.

I bet the employees love that.

I can’t even imagine every other week… ick. I guess it’s not as bad in the summer but still…

It’s all contracted out. There is work every week though as the pickups are staggered by neighbourhood.

My garbage pickup is every 2 weeks. Winter is manageable, summer is more fragrant.

We do every week for trash and yard waste. Every other week for recycling

Same here. Considering that I can’t have trash outside most of the year (cleaning up after bears isn’t fun)… less frequently would be a problem. (I wouldn’t hate weekly recycling, but at least that doesn’t get stinky.)

Growing up elsewhere, I remember the transition from twice weekly to once a week, but that was accompanied by the introduction of the standardized trash barrels…so that was a net positive.

That reminds me that I need to print up a piece of paper with my house number on it. Tonight’s trash night here, with this being the first pickup of the new billing period. The trash folks tend not to be able to tell our trash from our neighbor’s (our house is behind theirs), and our neighbors sometimes forget to pay their trash bill. Thus, I have to label our trash until I’m certain they’ve paid.

If you guys finally accepted statehood we could guarantee an extra pickup per week

Heaven forbid one of you forgets to put the bin out, might have to file a loss of use claim

I think I’d also hate ‘once every two weeks’ for the rare occasion when I forget to put the bin out on the curb. We have weekly for trash and every other week for recycling and composting bins.

I am sure US cities have more frequent garbage service but US municipal taxes are about double what ours are.

Yes, but there would be half as much biweekly work in the winter as the summer, no? That must surely be reflected in employee pay somehow.

I mean maybe it’s slightly more than half since the volume is probably higher on the every other week runs. But going to each residence half as many times is a major decrease in quantity of work no matter how you slice it.
