The UK senior certainly has more freebies and discounts than Canadian and American seniors.
This article gives you an idea of them.

I don’t know. My next question would be what would they build that saves the UK?
Personally I think the UK has structural issues. To me the UK’S main issue is poor talent identification unless you come out of the private schools and the golden triad. It’s needlessly tough to get into leadership if you don’t have the right names on your CV.
Is it true that in the UK if you want cable you have to buy a license that is confirmed by a guy coming to your door for random inspection?
My friend’s dad was slowly dying of heart and kidney failure and the council renovated a bathroom in their house so that it was handicapped accessible and put a ramp in for him.
I think the government also paid for home visits by a barber and a dentist.
Several of those are available in all or part of Canada. Specifically, I’m thinking the eye exams, free dental, heating credit. In NL I think some seniors can get money to help with snow clearing.
A big one imo is the free public transit as that is otherwise expensive in cities like London.
Seniors in BC do not get free dental, free drug prescriptions, free transit or free eye exams. That varies very much by province.
Had not heard of Woodbridge before.
BC isn’t part of the national dental plan?
I’d go sort of on the eye exams and glasses. I know many (most?) optometrists charge more than the $48.90 that’s covered

My impression was that prescription drug coverage in BC and elsewhere was to some extent means tested. We’ll see what happens with the national drug plan.
Sorry I can’t help. I know BBC (national network) had licence inspectors but I never had it so I never got them. It would probably be like PBS but with a way bigger budget that makes them a big player.
It’s not just old people. It may include students and other people on welfare depending on the day and the current policies. Also transport isn’t like we charge you for every trip. It’s more like be smart and buy a day trip thing for £x and travel wherever you want that day. You can move places with public transport if you don’t have furniture because after a while it’s free transport. Well you pay for it in time though
If you want to watch BBC (or use BBC iplayer online) you would need to buy a TV license.
The people that come to your door to check cannot enter the premises unless you give them permission to enter.
People don’t understand this so they kind of freak out when push comes to shove. And the reason why the TV license investigators are pushy (it is run by a dodgy private company) is because their commissions are based on how many people they catch without a TV license (when they are watching BBC).
Thats called attendance allowance. Costs about £7bn every year. The graph below illustrates the scale of the senior benefits problem over the last 30Y.
That has just come into being and is income-tested. The drug plan is income-tested at a lower level. There are no special provisions for seniors versus others.
I advocated for the BC Pharma Plan in the CIA submission to the Federal Government on the the new federal drug plan as I think it is the right model for the entire country. No luck so far.
I will reinforce number 4. UK civil service was built out of military service. Now military service is inadequate and they do t know what to do.
I will say it again the biggest problem with the UK is it has poor talent identification structures.
The most paying football league has no local player we admire. Think about it. The highest paying profession in UK still can’t produce local players. WTF!!!
Der terrk urrr jerbs!!
Damn them, thinking winning and making money is more important than giving a local boy a chance.
Is that due to social class being more important for skill for many things?
Brian cox agrees -
Brexiters finally coming to their senses?
Within months enough had probably died off to lose the majority…
