At what point do you leave a failing country?

UK politics has this element of theatre that arises from these q&a sessions. They generally are not doing anything other than take jabs at each other.

This made me chuckle a bit today.

I do wonder how many people will choose to leave the US though due to Trump.

Ellen and Portia are rich enough to really enjoy life in The Cotswolds. And London with all it offers is close by. When it gets cold, wet and dark in the winter months they have a nice choice of warmer venues to jet off to. I wish them all the best.

Something happened at the US embassy in London this morning. The details are still emerging.

Sure. But the story is gaining traction in the UK press because it damages her credibility. The reality is she has zero private sector experience as an economist. She flat out lied when she pursued her seat as an MP.

She did work a decade if you round to the nearest decade.

How’s that starmer dude working out

To be perfectly honest, he has not been doing well.

Lots of own goals (he accepted lots of gifts from donors which made him look like a hypocrite) and their economic decisions are more along the lines of lets spend even more on the old and unproductive by borrowing and making the productive entities pay even more tax

So economic growth is basically a pipe dream.

The UK is basically the US’ poor relation at this point in time.

So the UK transport minister resigned after it became public that she had a spent conviction. She had apparently discussed it in the party previously when she was a shadow minister. Meanwhile the USA has a convicted felon for president. The UK tends to overreact whilst it’s depth in leadership material is low. To much nonsense honour stuff.

The story has yet to come out in full.

It turns out that Aviva (her former employer) was actively investigating her for possible theft (she had lost multiple (three) company phones).

She resigned from the company before they fired her basically.

Then, she decided to use one of her previously lost phones to call up her family and friends.

Aviva referred the matter to the police as the phones had been tagged as lost/stolen. She was about to be prosecuted for it when she decided to change her plea to guilty.

She has spent the last few days trying to muddy the waters in the press but its all coming out now. So she is definitely a convicted criminal that would barr her from senior positions in the City.

And thats why they asked her to step down. The story she told Starmer previously was basically BS. She didn’t tell him the whole truth.

The Times has the best coverage on this:

Trump may learn something from the UK’s deportation methods?

We discussed this issue a while ago. And it has grown a lot.

If you were given the freedom to fix the UK what would you do?

The only way to improve the UK is to completely eviscerate the NIMBYs. Take a shredder to the ridiculous planning permissions that are used to delay projects and make them expensive…and build, build, build.

If the UK does not start getting things built (roads, bridges, reservoirs, transport, houses, pylons etc) there is zero chance of any adjustments to the spending side working because productivity will never improve.

This is a good example of the problem:

What do you think is needed on roads/bridges/trasnport? Driving around the UK is slow compared to the US, but this seemed to be a lack of major roadways rather than congestion of the M. Unless you are starting well north of Edinburgh, you can drive pretty much anywhere in a day.

How very Canadian of them

I would also phase in reductions to all the freebies that seniors get. It is unbelievable what a privileged group seniors are in the UK and the resulting cost to the taxpayer. Such reductions would need to be grandfathered (pardon my pun) as they are too large a voting block to take away the privileges in one fell swoop for existing seniors. Have to close the door for future retirees as a minimum.

What are some of these freebies? Curious how the UK compares to the U.S., Canada, and other first world countries on that score.
