Artemis Program

Apollo 8 was also a lunar flyby. It’s a needed preliminary step. Artemis III is slated to test how the lander behaves while still in the safety of low earth orbit, and Artemis IV is the return the moon.

This all sounds familiar. Where/When have I heard this idea before…

One of my favorite nonfiction books, packing for mars, by Mary Roach has 1-2 chapters devoted to the challenges of pissing and shitting in space. It’s quite a sticky situation.

My grandfather was an engineer for NACA/NASA.

I still have unfortunately vivid memories of a family trip to tour the Space Center in Huntsville, where there was a display of the space shuttle toilet.

My grandfather had worked on human waste systems for NASA, so he proceeded to describe in a very loud voice, in the very crowded facility, how the system worked.

“You see that masturbatory looking device right there? Well, that was originally my idea…”

Looks like they need to send up Wolowitz.

More potty problems.

Was the toilet called the " Wolowitz Zero-Gravity Waste Disposal System"?

But Apollo 8 actually entered lunar orbit and went around and around about 70 to 80 miles above the moon. Artemis is doing a free return trajectory and will be about 4000 miles away from the moon. One thing that allows them to do is see the entire think pole to pole.
