Title.
I’m not cool enough to know what any of this means.
The real question is how many of those will translate to serious users and how many people are signing up out of curiosity
I signed up and am on it. Mainly because twitter requires an account to view tweets now, and my twitter account somehow disappeared around six months ago. Already had an instagram. My top sports journalist follows have already migrated over, so as long as they continue posting their updates on threads I have no reason to ever go to twitter again.
Yeah meta got real lucky with their timing. I’ve been sort of watching for the various Twitter alternatives but none of them have taken off (folks here can appreciate how hard it is to move a large community). I think this may be the twitter killer.
I’m just getting into Instagram for my fishing with nerds stuff, trying to figure out how to promote it. Doubt I’ll ever really do the threads thing as I have limited social media.
I certainly am not a good resource, but I can tell you this…if you have an instagram account you have a threads account.
Based on the 42 seconds I spent on the threads app this morning, I would conclude that it’s twitter with different nomenclature.
I technically have an instagram account, but not one I know the login to or have used in a very long time. Good to know.
Replace the names with the more recent entities…
are those on Threads still tweeting?
when you post on thread are you threading?
Nope.
I prefer to keep my thoughts to myself and to people who deserve them. (Why, yes, this board deserves them!)
But, hey, y’all do y’all.
Stringing someone along?
Apparently all of these jokes were made here:

Not me because I don’t have an instant gram
I don’t get it. Does instant gram not already have posts or something?
The whole “ActivityPub” protocol used for the “Fediverse” seems weird to me. It seems terribly inefficient for every participating website to cache everything (that gets accessed) from all the other websites. It also seems weird to me that Meta is getting in on it with Threads.
I haven’t given it a ton of thought though, and I’m sure the people making it happen have given it quite a bit of thought.
The fedverse apps, the benefit is that nobody really controls the content. So we could set up an actuarial server of some type and run it outselves, pulling in feeds from other servers at our choice. And then we get to decide on advertising, or not, etc.
Meta wants twitters traffic. More eyeballs=more advertising.
I know a lot of Redditors are looking for a new place to be too, it definitely seems to be a good time to launch a new platform
i will avoid until i hear a certain list if tweeters have migrated. i am on twitter but have tweeted <10 things as myself. the rest of my 50 total lifetime tweets are replies to people (asking or correcting an nfl sal cap question) or throwing in something actuarial to the lawyers i follow.
would have to think threads had a field day with finding talent looking for work in the last year
