Back in college, when I was a big Froot Loops fan, I wrote to Kellogg asking if they the percentages were the same for each color, as it always seemed like there were more of your least favorite color. I got back a very nice letter saying “I can’t tell you what the percentages of each are, but I can tell you there are an equal number of each.”
Doesn’t that belong is happy thoughts?
Should that be in Innumeracy? Or maybe he didn’t know how many colors there are. Or maybe he didn’t know if you wanted percentages by number or percentages by weight.
You can’t expect them to give away ALL of their secrets!
He wanted to create some drama just before his drama tryouts?
is this just visual, as i believe there is no flavor difference.
i cringe every time someone makes cup noodles (or any other instant type dry ramen noodle) by microwaving it in its water instead of boiling the water first and then letting the noodles soak like you’re technically supposed to.
Cup Noodles is now packaged in a paper cup that’s microwaveable. Definitely shouldn’t microwave it in a styrofoam cup.
Did not know that. Yeah, in this case it’s the foam ones we currently have available for students if they need a little something.
I’m in a surly mood today.
Give yourself a swirly. Flush the surly out. (Or give someone you hate a swirly. Get some exercise too while you’re at it.)
Obligatory Simpsons gif:
Yes, I’m serious, and don’t call me surly.
Our kid got a parking ticket. She’d parked, walked across the street to her workplace, and logged in to her app to pay. In the few minutes between, she was ticketed after walking away. Strictly, I’m sure she’s liable, but I feel a reasonable person for a first violation could waive that.
We appealed and showed the city proof that she’d paid, and we were told we’d hear back in a few weeks.
First thing we heard back was an overdue ticket notice with three times the fee. We already had to go into town together today, so we’re going directly to City Hall. Even if the appeal had been denied, okay whatever, but we shouldn’t have to pay overdue fees. We were explicitly told that overdue fees wouldn’t apply in the case of a denial.
right hand not knowing what the left hand was doing
she paid, without knowing of the fine
I can only assume the time stamp on the payment and the ticket are extremely close
You are waiting for a hearing so the penalties should be irrelevant win or lose
Most judges are pretty understanding.
Oooooh, now I’m annoyed.
I took 15 students winter camping. I’m parked at the gym building on campus, unloading all that equipment. By the time I’ve taken the last load in, parking ticket nazi’s have been there.
I appealed. They asked me if I had an unloading permit. Oh stfu. OK. And by the time they’d addressed my appeal, yeah, late charges.
Yes, we don’t have the payment timestamp available but we estimate it’s about 5-7 minutes different. Enough time to exit the garage, cross the street, take off a coat, punch into work, and go “oh right I need to pay that” and do it.
She’s of course aware not to delay like that again, but it was just an oversight. I’m guessing we will get it knocked down to the original fine and pay it.
I’ll bet they waive it completely
Working on a new model, I have some placeholder assumptions I’ve been playing with. Part of that is throwing in some pretty extreme values to see what happens, maybe something breaks. I was showing it to someone today and told them the numbers are total fiction and I’m playing with them to test the functionality, so just think about the concept of what I’m doing. And then they proceeded to immediately ask me if I thought 80% was reasonable for one of them, since that’s what was in there now. FML.
