Just finished, it wasn’t so bad.
j/k we actually get a Sunday newspaper and I usually do the jumble and the xword. In pen!
I’ve got a newspaper subscription pretty much just for the puzzles. Sudoku, kenken, “Today’s crossword” whatever that is, the NYT crossword, and by far my favorite, the patternless crossword. I usually skip Fri and Sat’s NYT because I usually either get stuck or run out of time to do it.
And, yeah, in pen.
Heading to St. Louis this week for a conference – just in time to meet up with Beryl’s remnants
oh, is that the weather i am seeing for my trip to Chicago?
Could be
I get that people like fireworks. Fine, we have a few days every year for people to shoot off fireworks and maybe blow a few digits or a whole hand off in the name of celebrating freedom or whatever.
It’s 11pm on Sunday night, folks have work in the morning. You’re not celebrating anything shooting off fireworks at this point, you’re just showing everyone what an asshole you are.
I never cared for fireworks growing up. But especially now that I’m a fur-papa to two barky doxies, I f***ing hate them.
Can’t remember if I posted this earlier this year.
Business daily process to deliver files to 3rd party. Time critical. Sometimes admin cycles run late. I laid out a process for IT to apply to make sure the right files are delivered. IT 1) do we really need to do this (fought this for over a week) 2) OK, if we are going to do it, we won’t do it Steve’s way because [most charitable interpretation follows] failure mode Steve’s method addresses (and ours doesn’t) won’t happen.
Well guess the heck what? Not only did the failure mode my method handles occur, it happened when the IT resource is on vacation for a week. Venting my I told you so’s here.
If I can tolerate your barking dogs the other 364 days a year, you can give me a little noise pollution for 1 hr on 1 day a year. (Yes not all fireworks users are disciplined as I am, nor all dog owners as good as you).
Barking dogs don’t shake my house or startle my kids awake at 12:30AM on a Sunday night. I’m also lucky enough to live in an area without much noise outside of random fireworks being set off 100 yards away from my house all summer long.
Personal fireworks users are, without much exception, inconsiderate jerks in my experience.
I have been awaken by a barking dog at 12:30AM on a work day which then proceeded to bark for another 2 hrs.
As I mentioned before, not everyone is considerate.
Both are annoying, fire works are generally limited to a few days a year, barking dogs can happen anytime.
Same thing goes for smokers. Especially of marijuana. I don’t want to walk down the street and have to breathe in that rank odor. Or be in a car at a stoplight only to have those fumes invade my automobile. Or walk down the beach and get assaulted by that stench. Or, trying to set a PR on bench press and start gagging as the stink emanates off your clothing as I have a few hundred pounds poised above my face and neck.
To me, most smokers are terribly selfish, as they have no consideration that their habit/hobby affects people dozens of feet away. I can be drinking a cocktail on my porch, or beer on the beach or even have some booze in my drink bottle at the gym. And no one is going to be affected by it whatsoever.
I compare it more to street racing. Dangerous to others, especially dangerous to yourself, loud, pointless, fire hazard, and illegal (at least where I live, fireworks aren’t illegal everywhere).
I also think that people who leave their dogs outside barking at all hours and people who set off fireworks late at night are probably the same people. Inconsiderate people don’t tend to pick only one thing to flex.
Some landscaping crew in back of my house was using heavy equipment - AT 7:05 A.M.!!!
One of my kids uses a feeding pump. The company that makes the bags for the pump has had a “supply chain problem” for several months and they are now extremely hard to get your hands on and everyone is scrambling around trying to find some. I suspect that the company’s supply chain problem is that they’re devoting all the resources to making bags for the new pump they just released, which is incompatible with the old pumps that everyone currently has. They put out a press release saying they expect to have stock some time in November, but they have plenty of bags for the new pumps.
Did not properly incorporate an interim vacation from vacationing before coming back to work today.
I remember wanting to leave for a trip right after work on a Friday and return as late as possible on a Sunday. Now I want sleep before Lea and a buffer day upon return.
Huh, my first husband’s family would go to an Indian reservation and buy a crap ton of fireworks before the 4th of July, and then set them off on the 4th of July at their lake house. And maybe a few on the 3rd because they just couldn’t help themselves. And they’d often pick up some dynamite but they’d set that off in a designated area at the reservation (which is what you’re technically supposed to do with all of your purchases of fireworks that the state prohibits, but of course this is not remotely enforced).
Didn’t seem particularly rude: just about every house on the lake was doing the exact same thing, and they’d have set everything off by midnight on the 4th. And then on the 5th everyone would be out with trash bags picking up all of the debris.
I was definitely nervous the first time I set one off myself. I didn’t get as much of a kick out of setting them off as the menfolk did, so I’d just open a beer, sit back, and watch the show.
