Annoyed Thoughts

The fridge in my room has actually semi-frozen some stuff I got. Darned if I can find a temperature control on it.

It might be in the back

I have a small wireless speaker that I use to play music during the day, or when we sit outside on the deck or whatever.

The intervals of volume levels are way too wide. On one setting it’s too quiet, on the next one up, it’s too loud.

I wanted a cable system to do lat pulldowns and rows. Cheapest thing was a complete home gym. I ended up buying a $4K home gym (originally) at $100. Bought it disassembled but looks like new. The thing is a monster, has everything, takes up way too much space.
Pick it up. Haul it down to the basement. Spend a half a day assembling it. Realize they never gave me the two guide rods for the weight stack. Contact the seller. They’ll look. They don’t find it.
So now take the whole damn thing apart, haul it upstairs into the truck. Off to the metal recycling place tomorrow. Geez.
I see an actual lat pulldown machine (with low row and triceps) on FB for $150. Hopefully contact them and pick it up this weekend. Dissmantle, haul downstairs, reassemble.
I’m getting a workout just buying exercise equipment.
(conversely, we’re moving our home gym from one room, to a much bigger room. My spouse is super happy with the new space for her yoga.)

Update. Took the gym to metal recycling this morning. 54 bucks in sweet cash!

People who go to Costco that don’t understand after 8 years and signs all over, the only credit cards accepted are Visa or MasterCard.

Bonus on that: people who, after you point to those signs, complain they can’t pay with AmEx.

I do know I’ve heard this, but I only have Visa so it doesn’t really cross my mind. If I got a new credit card that was MC or Amex I’d probably try to use it at some point only to be told I can’t.

Isn’t it visa only in the US and MC only in Canada or something like that? Exception being the Costco CC?

Our Costco doesn’t accept Mastercard. Ask me how I know.

As long as their plan B is not a check…

I’m thought the only credit card they take is Visa. I have the Costco Citi card, it’s efficient to have a 2 in 1 card.

Back when we used Sam’s Club (maybe 20 years ago), the only CC allowed was Discover.

Somehow they were able to pay with a Mastercard. Might have been a debit card. I don’t know. I just know Mrs. Hoffman was looking at me with that please don’t say a word look as this guy was loudly complaining about not being able to use an AmEx because “I can use it everywhere else.”

Yeah, well, this isn’t everywhere else. STFU and pay already or GTFO.

Really?

That is so weird. Its usually AMEX that is hated (this is because of their high fees).

I had no idea MC was blocked in the US as well. Always assumed Visa and MC had fairly similar networks.

It’s just because it’s costco. they used to have an exclusive deal with amex. You could only pay with cash or amex. That ended a few years ago. Now, they have an exclusive deal with visa. You can only pay with cash or visa.

fwiw, google result from usa today

Costco accepts Visa-branded credit cards in its warehouses. It does not accept American Express, Discover or Mastercard credit cards in its warehouses, although you can use Discover or Mastercard credit cards online (but not American Express) at Costco.com or through the Costco app.

This is interesting. The reason why I was a bit puzzled is because in the UK Costco accepts all cards (Visa, MC, AMEX)

And supposedly debit cards with PINs are all fine; I’ve only ever had a visa debit card.

Whoever said Costco is quiet on Saturday evenings lied. Line for self checkout was insane so I went to a regular line which wasn’t too bad. Line to exit was long, then at the exit the number of items on the receipt didn’t match my cart so I had to do to the returns counter to get sorted. Then the parking lot was full of people who like to walk slowly in the middle of the roadway.

The dog is annoyed at some crows.
