- deplaned
- leaned that maintenance crew wasn’t able to come quickly; decided to rebook my flight to leave from Detroit after noon
- stood up and announced I am going to get an Uber to DTW, anyone want to share?
- Mike said yes
- Brett said yes
- ordered Uber
- picked up bags
- Uber driver called and said he had a flat tire, asked me to cancel so I did
- another Uber assigned
- 2 miles from the airport that one cancelled too

- got another one assigned
- he showed up!
- offered to give us a discount rate if we cancel Uber and pay him directly; we agree
- now at DTW after a pleasant ride with lots of positive conversation with Mike (on his way to Vegas to play in the WSOP) and Brett (on his way to Phoenix for some physical therapy and then family visit in California before CMU football starts back up in a few weeks)
- also have book recommendations for the near future, all around a reasonable morning. Attitude helps.
Flying is for suckers.
I did notice a lot of private signage with the current exit numbers that will have to be changed by the sign owner or lessee. They are probably not happy about it, either. Yet, many (all?) of the other states have already changed.
Vermont cheated. New York State is also moving slowly, and I haven’t heard what New Hampshire’s plans are.
For the first time in a very long time I had someone threaten me. “How about I kick your ass?” My reply was “bring it” and he left.
You left out the rest of the story.
About 6 twenty somethings riding electric scooters, ringing the bells and yelling at us to get off the sidewalk to let them through. My wife told them to get the f off the sidewalk. Dude started getting mouthy with her. I told them the wife was right, and all they had to do was look at their scooters or the app which say not to ride on the sidewalk. That’s when he threatened me.
Takes a special skill set to kick someone’s ass while riding a scooter. Like the steppe warriors who could accurately shoot arrows while riding a horse.
spouse got a letter from the DMV. said that the marriage license that she used to support her name change on the transition to getting a Real ID was not valid bc it wasn’t certified or official enough or something like that.
this is a license that she converted to Real ID 5 years ago. renewed it once since. now they are saying this. she digs out the marriage license we have - has a huge gold thing on it that we all take to mean it is an official copy.
this is annoying enough on the face of it. but the rest of her distrust of the federal govt in current format is on edge for something exactly like this.
Probably shouldn’t have sent that email to a petty man.
Or voted against tRump.
Or any number of reasons for this fasciat state to be assholes about.
I understand that a lot of south Asian folks (India, Pakistan, Afghanistan) own and run convenience stores in America. (why is that? anyway..)
I would like the person behind the counter to understand basic English. I should not have to pantomime my thoughts to this person. Two instances:
We had a hankering for powdered donuts one evening. Instead of driving to the grocery store, I went to the local 7-11. I wandered around a bit and couldn’t find them. I decided to ask the clerk. I don’t think he even understood my concept of the word donuts, let alone powdered, or white covered. I just wanted to know where the donuts were and he was unable to even guide me to the correct spot. (I eventually found them tucked away somewhere)
The other time: we go to 7-11 a lot. My wife prefers their coffee. I have the app. We get points, and eventually we get $$ off purchases. Yesterday, I got coffee and the paper (yes, an actual newspaper–we like to do the crossword) and I wanted to use my points which would have made the coffee ‘free’. The guy ran through the process and bypassed the screen where I would have entered my desire to use my points. I asked him to go back. Quizzical look. I told him I wanted to use my points. Quizzical. I tried to pantomime me using points. Perplexed look. I finally gave up. I’ll use them next time.
I understand immigrants work in the US. Legal or not, fine.
But if you are in the retail business and need to deal with customers whose primary, and usually only, language is English, I think you should employ people who understand more than ‘thank you’ or ‘Marlboro Lites’ or ‘Pick 5’.
Sometimes your paying customers have actual questions that need to be answered.
Side note: they were different 7-11’s. There was a two year difference in events and the first had since closed.
Maybe because they didn’t sell enough donuts.
It’s stoopid hot and hoomid outside, but I’m wearing my fleece inside sbux cuz it’s fluffin’ cold!!! ![]()
And presumably past experience has alerted you to that risk. These days I would almost never have a fleece available.
The grocery store was a fluffin’ ice box too!!! ![]()
Maybe no one else applied for that job.
This could have been the consequence.
And my pool is 90. Ugh.
Put some ice in it!!
I don’t think my pool has ever been that hot. It gets too cool here at night to keep it that hot.
In the long-ago, I had those “solar lily pads” that heat the pool. Problem with them is that they need to be stored else they pop. Need to wash them down, because the chlorine dries them up and they pop.
Solar cover keeps it warm, thought the 2-3" of rain the last 2 days would knock the temp down a tick. Should have taken the cover off yesterday. I hate when that happens.
