It’s already in my city, with no snow. It was loaded for delivery today, then was…not delivered.

I was in an open concept office years ago and had a mechanical keyboard. A comment was made.

Which, I would take to heart if it wasn’t from someone who frequently had long phone calls at his desk. CLACKETY CLACK MOFO.

Our kids loved that book.

Actually those keyboards aren’t loud enough. You need one that goes up to eleven.

Seriously? That seems pretty out of touch.

My company solved this the right way. Anyone can work from anywhere in the US, HIPAA concerns or else they might let me work from anywhere. Yes, I have coworkers in Hawaii. We have a really nice HQ building, if you want to work there, you are free to do so. It’s open seating but there are tons of one-person little rooms to take calls. And the food situation is worth mentioning. Espresso machines? Yes. Snacks? Salty, sweet, jerky, yogurt, baby bell cheese, cereal, chips, fruit, you name it we have it. Lunch? Catered about 4.5 days per week from good, local restaurants.

That’s the deal. Do your work, wherever. If you’re in the DC area, working from HQ… you could do worse.

I’m listening to some nice, relaxing classical music on YT while actuarializing. THE FREQUENT STOPS WERE NOT RELAXING!!! :face_with_symbols_on_mouth:

sign up for Whisperings (solopianoradio.com), it’s 30 bucks for a year’s worth of only instrumental music and ZERO ad breaks.

My company has a nice office, but honestly has not put in much effort to create enthusiasm to be there. Get work done and show up often enough to justify a spot with your name on it. I like the change of scenario from working at home, especially when the weather sucks, but I just pack my own snacks/drinks/etc because what they do provide in the office is mostly symbolic placeholder crap.

It seems like it could be one of the highest ROI budget spends - give a bunch of high salary people $20 in free food a week so they actually talk to each other outside of a teams meeting.

wife had back surgery in december. event received prior auth from the insurer.

yesterday she got a claim denial for some part of it. I’ll chase it through and I think the provider is most at risk if part of what they did wasn’t “needed.”

But my wife has a long and complicated set of health issues. any wrinkle from the system gets her blood boiling and super stressed. so yay, us. cross post to the luigi m thread depending on how this plays out

It does work, I know some folks who are in the office 2-4 days per week. I know when I’m there it’s really nice knowing I’ve got good coffee and snacks all over if I get hungry. Sometimes I steal something and take it back to the hotel. So yeah, decent improvement in employee happiness for less than $50k/year expense (we have about 1,600 FTEs I think).

I remember about 15 years ago, my company’s then-CEO decreed that every break room would be stocked with the means to provide decent coffee when he got annoyed at just how many people were leaving the office during the day to seek out good coffee.

We can go get a better coffee in our cafeteria, but when your average employee costs $100 an hour all in, it seems like a no brainer to make this stuff as readily available as possible.

Free coffee/tea/Swiss Miss packets and discounted soda at a minimum seems like a no brainer to me. Both past companies I worked at provided this, although who knows if they still do. We worked long hours there and it made it a little more enjoyable.

Current company does not provide coffee, they have a full service coffee shop with $3 drips and $6 specialty drinks, or an air pot self service situation with $3 drips in the cafeteria until they run out.

Starting a year or two ago, they started offering $1 drip coffee from the cafeteria and fountain soda refills (bring your own cup kind of thing) and that’s been a big plus, but free would be better.

I would get behind some kind of voucher program to incentive people to come in, especially on Mondays and Fridays when it’s dead. The cafeteria food is not subsidized at all, so even half price on non-commercial items would be great.

Good luck to you. Did you get the Valtrex in time to curb some of the symptoms? That was a huge help for Mr. NA a few years ago.

My doctor prescribed valacyclovir, which Google tells me is the generic equivalent to Valtrex. Hope it was early enough: just started it.
