Annoyed Thoughts

My car’s GPS keeps changing the settings. It is easy to fix but this must be the fifth time.

General background annoyance, my neighbour is a complete tool. And his wife is great friends with my spouse.

He leaves for work in the morning and doesn’t snowblow his wife’s car out. Just leaves. So when I’m out clearing our driveway most mornings, there’s his wife struggling with a shovel, he’s long gone.

And last week the municipality dropped a warning flag on him to clear his sidewalks.

So I guess his wife starts talking with him about this, maybe he should get his fat ass out of bed and turn in the snowblower? Nope.

Instead,he seriously suggests that maybe she should lift some weights so she can better shovel snow. Unironically.

Can you imagine saying that to your spouse? holy cow.

I am suddenly awash in sourdough videos on Instagram.

I have a UTI, which is the worst, but was able to get it diagnosed in under 5 minutes and for only $11 using telehealth. So it could certainly be worse.

Went to put chemicals in the hot tub and there was almost no water in it. I don’t see any place it would have gone either. What is left will likely freeze tonight. The spa guy is coming tomorrow so maybe he can help triage. Looking at a new one at Costco today just in case.

i get chronic sinus infection. anytime i’ve tried telehealth in the past it’s always been “go to urgent care.” maybe that was too long ago before they were trying to get marketshare. but some things, you just know and want the script ASAP

Yeah I’m sure for some things it’s not as helpful! My husband has been told he has to go see his PCP for some things that didn’t seem like a big deal to me, but that was also many years ago, pre-Covid even.

UTI discomfort/urgency is unbearable to me. I used to have to suffer with just the pain management that turns my pee bright reddish orange for several days until I could get in with my doctor, or spend a few hundred going to urgent care. This is definitely a step up from that.

I’m driving with a spouse who has the latest iphone and no idea how to even use basic navigation. I have to pull over and get directions myself. quite annoyed

I told them we are returning the iPhone and they’re getting one of those phones with big buttons.

Yeah, I get a frantic “I’m lost! What do I do?” phone call a couple times a year from my wife. Well, turn on location would be a good start, but apparently that’s not the correct answer.

I don’t have an iPhone, but I would hope that a “Hey, Siri” command would help you out.

“Hey Google, give me directions to…” on my Pixel does what I’d hope it would do.

buddy, dont even start.

They tried that. but there was a town nearby with the same name as the hotel. so when I asked if it identified the hotel or the town, well no idea.

so we were back to pull over while i do it myself lol.

Sous vide machine crapped out. Now I have to try to finish this on the stove.

I followed up with her, and got “we are playing phone tag” back. Apparently, she has ignored my request to forward my questions, and is trying to call to resolve the questions, but not trying too hard…

Fun times.

Anyway, soon it will be the beginning of February, and all banks will have been required to send 1099s if necessary. That should resolve my questions, only 3 months after I sent them to her.

I’ve lost count of the rounds, though, which is definitely a pity.

Although, I’ve just read online that maybe I’ll get a K1 for this, which means I need to wait to mid April.

Guess I’m filing an extension this year.

  • My laptop was starting to act up. The mouse would randomly bounce around the screen and click random buttons. I was sure it was a virus or malware or some other funky stuff. After much delousing and getting no where and then some searching, I think it was a need for an updated mouse driver triggered by one of the 1,000 Windows 11 updates. It may have solved the problem; waiting to see.
  • A week ago, woke to find my hot tub was empty. We use it all winter long. No sign of the missing water either. There was enough snow on the ground I would have expected the 400 gallons of 100 degree Fahrenheit water to have melted some of it so I could trouble shoot it. Nope. Called our usual support guys and they were off since it was the first (or maybe the second). Called the back up guy and he said he would stop by that day. He texted me back later and said he couldn’t make it. Gave me another guy’s contact info. This guy said he would be there Sunday and then proceeded to ghost me. After many more texts and calls to the original guy, the backup guy and the back up back up guy, the last guy said he had a cancellation and would be there shortly. He diagnosed frozen pipes likely caused by a bad valve he could replace. Then he looked some more and saw a lot of freeze damage on most components. Suggested the starting quote to repair would be about $2,000 and would likely increase for each additional issue he found. We are going to look at new hot tubs this weekend.
  • Internet went out for a full day. ISP said to use their on-line chat support which is not reachable without Wi-Fi. Finally got someone out at the exact same time as the hot tub repair guy was here. Apparently my modem/router died. New one ordered and due in a couple days. In the mean time, I am borrowing one from the ISP (supposedly at no charge).

I love how self-referential this show so often is (“It may be a crappy network, but the Simpsons are on tv!”… how many times have the Simpsons had a dig at Fox anyway?) and so very meta, like they only have enough budget for one take and zero editing so everything unpolished gets left in. Incredible writing.

equal pay for equal work, eh, comrade?

actual annoyed thought: When you run a company that has a remote work option, you need to accommodate those remote workers for events. Especially on important initiatives that you encourage people to participate in. Like kickoffs for mentoring programs that not only leave the remote employees unable to partake of the content, they also get screwed out of the free meal. :frowning:
