Annoyed Thoughts

Aye…I want one, but refuse to buy at present.

Not annoyed, but unsettled I guess.
Just had a zoom with someone that was right on the edge of crying over their life insurance. not in a good way either.
I’m mr. technical. I will bludgeon you with the facts and figures. I don’t have mad skillz in terms of being able to make someone comfortable. Jeez, I wish I did, because this person could use some comfort.
I did the best I could, but I did a shitty job I think. Or maybe there just was no comfort, I dunno.

The midsize truck that I had in college is larger than a Maverick and smaller than a Ranger, two of the smallest new truck models. You can get into those for 30-40k, which feels reasonable price-wise and size-wise as older models.

When an F150 is now 50% larger and 50% more expensive after inflation…well…

Power went out completely at my house.

Fuse box looked fine. Electricity meter dead.

Engineer came out and it looks like the main cable to my junction box is damaged. Needs to be replaced.

Was able to get neighbour help via their backup connection for the time being, as it looks like fixing the cable means at least a few days work on the power company end.

Yeah. 2013 I bought ‘the truck that I wanted’. Sports edition, loaded. $60K. OOf, but OK.
Fastforward 10 years, time for a new truck. Same truck? $100k or close.

I bought what’s basically a farm truck. Basic model. $60K. Same as a fully loaded 10 years ago. I just refused to pay $100k for a truck.

Bitching about the cost of stuff probably means I’m old or something. I dunno. Time for my nap.

More power to you.

Absolutely. My current lineup is an '06 F150 work truck that I basically got for free that is finally falling apart, and a daily '18 Impala. Would love to swap both for a truck big enough to still fit carseats and all that jazz and only have the one vehicle (my wife does have a separate vehicle as well). The current F150 has no backseats and the kids can’t ride in the front seat of anything still because of laws or something, so it really only gets used about once a month. Hardly worth the liability insurance.

Interesting, and related, my son in law is a carpenter and he has some monstrosity of a truck for his work. But he’s dumping it in favour of some sort of work van. Easier and better for work I guess.

There are just enough circumstances that arise in my suburban lifestyle that having a truck available is just really nice from time to time. But I also just don’t want an extra vehicle sitting around. The Ridgeline was specifically designed to cater to this, but if I’m honest I just don’t like them that much.

I have to have a truck about 2-3 times a year for hunting and back country camping. I haul so much gear into the bush you can see the campsite from space. A fully loaded pickup, with a fully loaded trailer or boat on behind.

The rest of the time I use the truck, I could get buy. Hunting locally, or the 20-30 times I take the boat fishing, I could haul the boat on the back of a small SUV. The truck does make it more convenient.

If I didn’t have the back country camping and the moose hunt, I’d be rocking a late 90’s volvo sedan right now.

What you need is a V70R wagon. AWD and 300hp.

850 R series.
Someday when I have time Imma find one. Last time I drove one, I got a pretty expensive speeding ticket.
But frankly, so many of the volvo’s are just sleepers. Yeah, some of the v70’s are actual race cars apparently.

My dad has a ~70k Silverado that’s probably 5 years old with about 15k miles on it. I wish I had a reason to want it, because he will trade it in and get like half that for it. Basically new truck.

It is just too big, and impractical. I’ve been accumulating some woodworking tools in the garage and something like that just won’t fit. Plus, as mentioned, my old ugly minivan is better for bringing back wood from the store anyway.

I put my winter tires on my truck a bit over a week ago. Got distracted and left the tires beside the garage. then it snowed. nbd, it’ll melt in a day or two and I’ll get the tires moved to the shed.

it has not melted. it’s just kept snowing. and now I’ve got 4 20" tires beside the house under two feet of snow. this is not going to be a fun job.

Are you getting lake effect snow or a storm?

Just a storm, no lake effect where I live.Just Canadian winter, a bit earlier than expected.

Woke up with a sore throat today. I hope it’s only a cold.

Sometimes I wonder if my coworker has any idea of how much of a killjoy they are.
