Annoyed Thoughts

I am interested in these teachings. :open_book:

I can see it from the most basic prime-finding technique used by kids - crossing off those numbers that are multiples of previous primes. 1 would eliminate all successive numbers.

After seeing Funemployed definition, I looked to see if it was used everywhere. It is not.
2nd hit was wikipedia: “A prime number (or a prime) is a natural number greater than 1 that is not a product of two smaller natural numbers”. And, at least on the list google gave me, the “not a product of …” definition seems to be the popular answer. Some explicitly exclude 1, as wikipedia did, but others didn’t.

I think that list I linked had some rationales (or at least quotes) behind why they did. Not saying they are right, or including 1 is preferable in all cases, but perhaps for what they were doing it made sense.

It turns out that in the age of privacy and stolen identities, this has become much more difficult. In most states, you can now only get a birth certificate if you’re one of the people listed on the birth certificate. Back in the day when I was looking up some genealogy, there were no restrictions at all on whose documents you could request. I’m hoping I can find all the US documents I need from my old genealogy research.

Is this the trapezoid you really want to die on?

The dryer has been down for 2 weeks. ETA on the back ordered part is another two weeks. Hanging clothes to dry is getting old.

Don’t recall it coming up. It’s not particularly relevant to leaning Calculus or Differential Equations or Abstract Algebra whether the definition of a prime number does or does not include 1.

To be fair, I did not take Number Theory. This may have come up in that course, but it was an elective. We had to take 4 math electives for the degree and I took Combinatorics and Discrete Mathematics and Advanced Geometry and Differential Equations.

The definition of a prime absolutely comes up in algebra when you are studying rings, but that is perhaps more of a 2nd semester topic.

I forgot that weekend train schedules are different than weekday ones (every other hour instead of hourly), and the train that I was planning on taking doesn’t exist. Fortunately remembered to check before leaving home, but this means that I will miss a conference session that I wanted to attend, and make the timing of the dance class I want to go to a bit tight.

:swear: You guys aren’t holding up your end of the posting. System won’t let me make more than 8 posts in a row in Funny and NSFW, even if the first was 15 hours ago.

Annoyed because it’s the first Saturday in February, and it didn’t show up in my Facebook feed until today.

Mini Me and I got to the ice cream place before noon on Saturday, so I figure that sort of counts. We’d eaten breakfast, so it was second breakfast for us.

Pretty much right before lunch but I had a coupon for a free Sundae and saw a chance to earn cool mom points by having ice cream for [second] breakfast.

Of course after lunch she asked for lunch dessert and I was like yeah, you had lunch dessert already kiddo.

If she had an account she could post in this thread

Hahaha, it was a big Sundae… I think she was more testing the waters to see what she could get away with than genuinely wanting more sweets.

Let’s just say that she goes through her Halloween candy WAY slower than her mom did. :grimacing:

Last night, the school district called a 2 hour delay for today. Okay, great, thanks for not calling me at 5-something am.

When they called at 6:20am this morning, I figured they changed it to school being cancelled altogether. Nope, it was to announce a 2 hour delay for today. :expressionless:

Mini Me’s district has an opt-out, but it’s opting out of emergency notifications such as if they have to close school or there’s a bomb threat or active shooter or whatever.

Weather delays are in the same category as bomb threats. :woman_facepalming:

I am once again on a call with my new-ish manager that is now 30 min past the scheduled end. Plus this meeting was just added to my calendar last night. I had planned getting some work done this morning, that plan is shot.
