Other than the crap sleep thing, he doesn’t seem to really notice his ear is infected. No fever, not much pain unless you’re sticking something directly into the ear, nothing.
You’d think we were trying to murder him by sticking four ear drops into his ear canal twice a day, and giving him that awful amoxicillin, but that’s just my son leaning into his true self. He tends to err on the melodramatic side. We tried to get him to eat yogurt tonight to offset any potential tummy troubles from the antibiotics and he gagged to the point of almost vomiting. It was vanilla yogurt with sprinkles…
I avoid United like the plague. They have (or at least had) those God awful headrests where it’s impossible to be even slightly comfortable if you’re not fully reclined. Plus I had an issue with the crew so long ago that I no longer even recall what the issue was… just that they were a-holes.
I don’t believe I’ve flown United in 15 years. Delta, American, Southwest, Air Canada, British Airways, KLM, South African Airways… maybe someone else that I’m forgetting.
Last time I flew United was when Corporate Travel booked the ticket for me and I wasn’t allowed to choose. But that was a while ago. After that experience I started researching the flights myself before I’d call Travel. “Hi, I need a ticket to XYZ and I’d like to leave between H and J o’clock” (where H and J were specifically picked by me to avoid any available United flights). Or for a while I worked for a company with a corporate jet, which was way easier / nicer.
Yeah, the weight requirements are wildly different by country, and the bag dimensions vary, too. I’ve spent a fair amount of time before international travel weighing my bags. I never do that for US domestic flights, but it’s often an issue on international flights. My carry-on suitcase is a little smaller than my husband’s because i bought mine to comply with most European rules, and his is a US carry-on (from the same company, since i liked their bags.)
Not letting her redistribute her stuff was nasty, though.
I’ll only fly United if i can’t find a flight in another airline that’s got an acceptable schedule. I’ve never noticed the headrests, but they have less legroom than any of the other major carriers. And I’ve also noticed them to be less pleasant to deal with.
And i won’t take Spirit Air. Made that mistake once.
I’m in Boston, so primarily fly Jetblue because they have a massive presence here and I can get flights pretty much anywhere pretty easily.
United and AA are pretty much on my ‘do-not-fly’ list because I’ve had miserable experiences with them. AA cancelled a flight 5 minutes before we boarded it so they could give our plane to 5 people going to NY. United managed to lose my luggage on the way to Chicago, return it 1 day before I left Chicago, then lose it again on the way back to Boston.
I’m going to do some research. I flew out of DEN for almost 15 years, and United had by far the most flights, so that’s who I went with. Now that I’ll be flying out of MCI I’m not sure United is my best bet, I think SW has a pretty large presence.
And I have status with United, which SW would match if I switched. It’s doubly frustrating to have United treat me like crap when I was spending $1k/mo with them before Covid.
Yeah, not only did they have less leg room and less comfortable seats, and not only did they charge for my carry-on bag, they made me wait in a long, slow line for the privilege of paying for that bag.
(They also charged for checked baggage, of course. But in this case I was carrying a bag full of exam papers, and had to bring it carry-on. I guess that won’t be an issue now that the exams are all on-line.)
American is dead to me after they delayed our flight to Kona for a full day due to issues on their end (not weather etc). They parked us overnight in Los Angeles and didn’t offer us a hotel, we had to demand it. But the worst part was the gate agent mansplaining things to my wife. I’m normally very patient with front-line workers but I went off on that guy.
And then they delayed our return flight, we wound up in Phoenix for many hours. When I asked if we could get on an earlier flight back to Denver they told me I’d have to pay $75/person to book an earlier flight, despite the fact that it was their fault I was there all afternoon.
I rarely fly American, and have had some bad experiences. My last one was a nightmare both ways.
Spoiler
I was flying to Durango CO, and had to connect in Dallas. My outgoing flight in DAL had mechanical problems, but took off maybe 45 minutes late. About 30 minutes into our flight, I told my wife that I didn’t know where we were flying but it wasn’t to CO. Sure enough, a little later the pilot announced that we were returning to Dallas. A host of firefighting equipment was by the runway waiting for our arrival, including firefighters dressed in space suit looking gear. Turns out our plane had “total failure of cockpit electronic displays” or something to that effect. They tried to repair the plane and put us back on it an hour or 2 later, which provoked some extreme reactions from passengers refusing to board that plane. They eventually found us another plane, and we got to our destination 5 hours behind schedule. The fun was not over yet, as by that point a blizzard was just hitting Durango! I had a 2 hour white knuckle drive up into the mountains in nasty conditions.
The return flight was also a PITA. There was an ice storm in Dallas, so our flight was cancelled. For non-Dallas bound travelers, AA was rerouting some passengers through other airports or putting them on other carriers. They refused to do this for us. They ticketed us the next day when another massive snowstorm was scheduled to hit Durango. I spent a while patiently explaining how nutty that decision was, but they weren’t budging. I pulled out my credit card and bought a one way direct flight on another carrier departing within hours. There was plenty of space on that flight. AA just didn’t care about getting us stuck there. AA then refused to refund any money for the flight because I had purchased a really cheap non-cancellable fare. It took a detailed letter about how shitty they were for me to get my money back.
they cancelled your flight, you found a new one, and they wouldn’t refund the money for the flight that you never got on to begin with because they cancelled it? that’s basically stealing.
They thought I should have waited around for my rescheduled flight the next day, which would have almost certainly been canceled due to a major snow storm incoming. Paying for extra hotel nights would have been at my expense of course.
