That’s what coats are for. Plus teenager metabolism.
I would have gladly taken a beater car with no heat over what I got as a teen - bupkis.
I might get a second opinion on the repair. A leak in the coolant system is a way bigger issue than no heat in the winter. If it isn’t being presented as a way bigger deal, it seems likely that’s not really the issue and more likely the issue is the more typical bad thermostat. Those are typically replaced in the hundreds of dollars, not thousands.
I was imagining a cracked heater core, which is indeed a bigger deal and might cost in that range to repair.
When I went to take a shower today, no hot water. My guess at what happened: the guys that installed the new furnace must have temporarily shut off gas down there. They didn’t relight the pilot light. Come on man.
My furnace guys did the exact same thing in October! I mean, they do this job weekly and should know to check the water heater.
I accidentally did that to my daughter the other day. Was wiring an outlet and had a couple of breakers turned off. The one I forgot to turn back on was for her tankless water heater. You know she let me know all about her cold shower.
One day, I will have to tell the story of my father trying to tell me how to light the pilot light on New Year’s Eve, while he was drunk.
I held a new years eve party for the first time since covid. More people cancelled for health reasons than came.
For $2000 get the kid a cheap apartment in rural FL for 3 months. Heater probelm solved.
The plumber was down there with them for a while working on the sump pump. He commented on my hot water heater, as it’s a very early generation tankless that is still working well. He noted that it has a pilot light, where the newer models don’t.
It’s forecast to be 20 degrees or colder for 4 of the next 7 nights, hitting as low as 15 degrees 2 nights
If it makes you feel any better, the high here is projected at -1°F today. Mucho sucko.
The new HVAC is keeping up though, the gas furnace doesn’t even go from low to high until around -7°F.
The handle on the upstairs toilet broke. I just got a replacement from the hardware store.
ETA: I got the wrong type of handle. Back to the hardware store tomorrow.
On the positive side (for the locals), the extreme weather blew the Dolphins out of the water/ice last night.
There were tickets available for that game at $30 each.
Even for indoor events, we got cheap tickets to see the KU basketball game yesterday. I assume people didn’t even want to venture out of the house.
People who take selfies in the gym locker room.
Was there anyone directly behind them while they took the selfie?
Not that I know of but I was in the corner, which blocked the full view. Not that I’m much to look at but I wasn’t crazy with someone taking photos nearby while my pants were off.
