Annoyed Thoughts: archive 1

We’ve been buying takeout from the local Japanese place since the pandemic. I always phone in my order. At first, we were avoiding apps because most of the apps were 3rd party and took a big cut. But we eventually realized the Japanese place had it’s own online system, and it didn’t cost them extra. So we tried it. It’s easier to order that way. But .. the order had an error when we got it. We’ve tried it a couple more times, and there’s often some little thing wrong. I’ve never had any problems with a phone order.

There’s obviously some difference in the work flow for them, and this place does better with phone orders. So I keep calling them.

I think this is more annoying than happy.

Happy: the repurchase plan for lemoning out our vehicle is moving along. [Manufacturer] sent an expected timeline.

Annoyed: the agreement we signed last week stated “[Manufacturer] expects the repurchase process to be completed within 2 to 4 weeks of your signed acceptance.” Cool, this might be done by the end of the year, certainly by the 2nd week of next year, but since we’re near year end maybe they’ll be motivated to get this done sooner. New timeline: best case, 4 weeks from today before we get contacted to set a date to surrender the vehicle. Unknown how long after that until we actually surrender the vehicle. Unknown how long after that until we get checks and close everything.

So, we have a vehicle we’re trying not to drive because we don’t want something to happen to it and that screws up the entire repurchase plan. But, we can’t totally park it at the moment because occasionally we need it for stuff. But, it now has a new issue where the heating system does not work on occasion - which, when you live where it’s cold, … that’s kind of a problem. And, over the next 4-6 weeks - which on the current timeline we’d still have the vehicle - that’s increasingly going to be a problem.

So I missed testing one connection it seems. I finally got light out of the headlights and celebrated. And then I took it for a test drive and the lights started flickering. This is common and there’s a thing you can install in one minute (it’s just a capacitor) to prevent it, and I did install one.

But I tested it, and according to my multimeter the capacitor is busted, it’s showing 0µF. Sweet crap, how many things can go wrong installing two headlights? The new one arrives today and fingers crossed it’ll only take me a week to make two lights work.

Boo covid. My kids all got it two weeks ago, and while they are back in school, I got it this week, tested positive on a day when I was supposed to see them. Got told by 2 different people over the phone today that I sound terrible, always good to hear.

But is there toothpaste on it?

Toothpaste? Yes, but now, at least, it’s no longer visible.

I was annoyed that I righted my inside out shirt before I dribbled toothpaste on it.

Waited to watch the last Indiana Jones when it came out on Disney+

Got some nice drinks & snacks…

And god, this movie is just awful. What a terrible way to end the series. The first three were amazing, with the last being meh. But this one is on another level of bad.

Redundant Acronym Syndrome. You know, like UPC code (which read Universal Product Code code) and LCD display (liquid-crystal display display) and ATM machine (automated teller machine machine) and even the close cousins, where it’s something like NFL football (National Football League football … as opposed to, National Football League baseball, or soccer, or backgammon).

Which, yes - we’ve got thread titles on this site that have RAS.

I think it’s commonly referred to as RAS syndrome.
