At first I didn’t notice the cutlery/utensils/silverware so I thought the steak would be a challenge with the chopsticks.
Thursday is the new Friday in London due to WFH.

How is your granddaughter?
Roofing next door. Now I understand aofan’s complaints about her neighbor’s construction. At least the roof will be done in a day or two.
F@ck!n& Microsoft just over wrote alt-Edit-linKs with some POS side bar interface that doesn’t work right unless you use your

She wasn’t even aware it happened, was napping at the time.
Thank you for asking
What are we looking at and why does it annoy you?
It’s a National Weather Service official tornado warning, which is supposed to inform the public as to imminent weather dangers without being overly broad and warning areas unnecessarily.
The X represents where the warning says a tornado is located. All the surrounding areas with question marks are areas that, given the information presented in the warning, are definitely not threatened by the tornado given its reported location and direction of travel.
And this - reporting where a severe storm / tornado is and then listing off areas that cannot possibly be threatened given the reported location and direction of travel - happens way more frequently than it should, which increasingly causes the public to begin to question or disregard warnings.
When I booked this flight a few months ago, I selected a window seat. I always select a window seat.
A few hours ago when I got to the airport and printed off my boarding passes, I was assigned a middle seat. We are in the air for an hour, so whatever. Things happen.
Now I’m assigned an aisle seat.
I’m not sure what to believe. My boarding pass that I printed says one thing, my boarding pass through the airline app says another.
Hoping it’s the aisle seat…
I have had this experience. Usually one of two culprits:
-
Booking tickets through a 3rd party vendor like Expedia or cheapoair. They let you pick your seat but the airline does not always honor these requests. A few days after booking you may be able to go on the airline’s website (or use their app) and select your seat but your preferred seat may be gone. Unless it’s a materially better price, I avoid this problem by booking directly through the airline.
-
Change of aircraft. The airline switched the aircraft from a 757 to a 737 (or whatever) and there are now fewer window seats, fewer first class seats, fewer everything so a lot of folks lose out. Not much you can do here. They’ll assign seats based on your fare class and elite status level with booking date as a tiebreaker.
It was booked through AMTRAV, which the SOA uses for all flight booking. I have always gotten my selected seat before, but that doesn’t mean much. I’m not sure what their process is.
I’m just going to board last so it’s clear which seat is left/mine. If it’s the middle, I won’t throw a fit, even though the app is still saying aisle.
Got the aisle!
When I booked through Expedia it seems like I got my requested seat maybe 75% of the time.
My theory (which I basically pulled out of my butt, though it seems plausible) is that they send the airline the request after some delay, and if the seat is still available the airline honors it and if the seat is not still available the airline ignores it. The better your requested seat the more likely it is to be ignored.
As a person who is already panicked of flying, I love hearing about how they need to fix an engine before we can take off.
A 30 minute repair can’t be THAT serious, right? Right?!
It ended up taking an hour, and we were already delayed before that. I hate flying!
Most of the connecting flights got bumped an hour, including mine. I probably could have made it, for the first time pretty much ever, my arrival gate and my departure gate were in the same terminals. My bag might not have been as lucky!
The people sitting next to me got bumped to an 8am flight, and they have been awake since Friday night, and the airline isn’t offering them a hotel. So I feel pretty fortunate to not be them.
This is turning into a very eventful trip!
They called my name at the counter for my second flight. Was worried I was going to get bumped, but they asked if I would be willing to move to comfort plus because the person next to me had some kind of accommodation that they preferred to seat in the aisle and not the middle. The woman had a thick accent, so I couldn’t really understand. It sounded like she said “high chair.”
It’s in the middle, but it’s in the first row with all the extra leg room. And I get to board with the VIPs now.
If they tell you they need to fix the engine, and it will take half an hour, it’s basically routine maintenance. No, it’s not serious, so long as they do it.
Are you still at the airport??? ![]()
