“Inside voice, honey”
We’ve lived in various 2br apartments/condos and the stipulation when looking for the last one was that the bedrooms must not be adjoining, so that there are two closed doors between who’s having a phone call in one room and someone working in the other room.
My husbands voice booms. It carries really well. I can hear him downstairs on the front porch having a phone conversation with someone in a normal voice. And when he gets excited, it’s like he’s in the room with me. I can shout and our kids don’t hear me, he raises his voice slightly and they’re scared they’re in trouble.
Fortunately we did not have to both work from home at the same time, it would have been awful.
Word just told me to take a comma out, fine. Then it underlined the word again and suggested that I add the comma. Make up your mind, computer.
My voice carries really well, if I get a phone call from a friend while my fam is around I usually go out to the garage to take it.
Optometrist just gave me dilating drops. Me no like.
This could be annoyed or random. Or both.
Friend B just said in our friends chat, “paid my property taxes. Now I’m broke.” And I thought “how much are your property taxes?” so I went and looked. And, then went down a rabbit hole.
TL;DR backstory: B was married to S. They were married shortly after Mrs. Hoffman and I got married. B and S get divorced in 2021. There were lots of issues underlying for a while, but B ignored everything because they were having sex and that’s all he cared about. As info trickles out, they’d fallen behind on property taxes “a little” and B threw S under the bus saying she was responsible for finances and should have taken care of it.
Rabbit hole dive: yeah, they did fall behind on property taxes. 11 years in a row. Like, they had to cough up money from somewhere to avoid losing the house on a tax deed twice.
Annoyed thought: I get missing property taxes, maybe once. Maybe. I get being late more than just missing them completely. How do you fail to pay property taxes 11 years in a row? How do you keep letting your wife be in charge after the first 2 times, which you have to redeem for a refinancing of the house? How do you leave her in charge 4 times after that, when you have to come up with almost $11,000 to pay an $8,000 tax bill to avoid a tax sale? How the hell do you still leave her in charge of paying property taxes after that?
Random thought: I really want to send a message back saying “congrats on paying your property taxes (almost) on time 2 years in a row.”
Different topic, which I can’t remember if I alluded to here or elsewhere but is going to be the topic of a future thread:
Yes, I do know someone who’s been investigated by the FBI.
I mean my husband was, which probably means I was. We were in association with someone who was scamming people. We didn’t know he was doing that. I guess they satisfied themselves that we didn’t know bc we never heard anything more about it.
I don’t remember for sure that it was the FBI, but I’d been interviewed several times about a neighbor, and the dad of my daughter’s best friend, who was a TSA supervisor. There were lots of “what do you talk about”, “has he ever”, and “would you consider him a good American” questions.
I think it’s the FBI who does the checks for security clearances. I once dated an army officer and when he transferred to Military Intelligence the FBI interviewed me as part of him getting Top Secret clearance (or whatever level it was… I no longer recall).
He was pretty nervous about it because he had to list every time he’d left the country in the prior 20 years… and he was an army brat so he traveled a TON as a little kid when his dad was stationed in Germany, and was still only in his 20s so had to list a number of those childhood trips. He & his mom meticulously went through his passport stamps to recreate every trip… but he neglected to list the weekend we spent in Victoria. (We lived in Tacoma… it’s just a hop, skip & a ferry ride away.)
Well the FBI agent was all over that trip, every detail of what we did, where we went, if we saw/met anyone there, if anyone besides us was ever in our hotel room, if he went off by himself.
We were broken up by that point, but I had to talk to them anyway. Which was fine, it ended on good terms, and there was no reason for him to not get the clearance.
He later joined the FBI and I had to meet with them AGAIN.
My grandfather told my mother not to marry an army officer but did she listen?
The furnace might need to be replaced this fall; the washing machine is leaking.
My oldest son’s birthday is this weekend. We are throwing a small party tonight, so we wrapped his gifts this morning.
My youngest son’s friend had a birthday a few days ago. My sister took my son to the party today, because we had to take the older kids to a soccer game. They left after we did this morning.
We got back from the game, and there are no presents on the table anymore. I hope my son’s friend enjoys the 3d printing pen!
Fortunately, most of my son’s gift this year was money, which we transferred to his account. The cost to replace the gifts is only around $100, and they are both able to be delivered today, so the birthday isn’t ruined, and it’s a funny story.
I did a new roof this month, all new HVAC Oct 4. It’s been a very expensive quarter. After this I’ve only got about $80k left and the house should be good.
My family said they’d be ready for dinner in 15 minutes. That was half an hour ago, so maybe we are getting close.
Haha, well I did end up breaking up with him, but not because of his job. Of course my next relationship of any significance was with an Air Force officer, so I guess I was glutton for punishment. That ended when he got stationed in Africa, which is basically a get married or break up situation and we weren’t ready to get married. Which in hindsight is a good thing because we weren’t really a good fit, but I hadn’t figured that out at that point.
Not quite FBI level, but we had a call some years ago from the rcmp, asking about what our relationship was with some guy. We’d never heard the name. Rcmp probes, we got nothing.
They tell us he put a charge through our credit card a.couple years ago. We look, we had booked a fishing charter with him. We paid then he ghosted us.
Rcmp tells us he couldn’t make the charter because he was.locked up for arson at the time lol. And they were following up for more cases of arson, this our phone call.
Whoa… that’s pretty bizarre.
leaving an event yesterday, carried something to a friend’s car and then jumped in my car to drive home. about 2 blocks away im driving and it hit me - I must have stepped in dog poop. half mile later I have to pull into the parking lot at the park. raining hard then, but I had to jump out and deal w this. right shoe tread was half full of it. ugh. stood in the rain using napkins and the grass to wipe that shoe clean enough to get back in the car. wiped down the pedals and made a note to remove the floor mat.
