I have never had a job where they drug tested as a requirement in the first place. That requirement is weird
I dropped the stupid cholesterol pill in the kitchen and darned if I can find it. I had to get a fresh one.
No thoughts annoy me. All my thoughts annoy me. I don’t understand this thread.
Really? Wow. I took one job during the pandemic where the remote client made me a temp employee and they didn’t drug test, which may have been due to the pandemic.
But I think every single other job I’ve had after college had a drug test. Most, but not all, of those were in the Pacific Northwest… maybe it’s a regional thing???
Mostly, yeah, but depends on the job. Also, the test can’t tell which day one partook.
Right. That’s one of the reasons it’s stupid. If someone actually showed up drunk or stoned or high to an interview, that’s a red flag. But if someone partied that weekend it really isn’t.
I’ve only had 2 jobs post college. I guess 3 if you count a merger. Neither one drug tested. Maybe we recognize it’s idiotic to drug test in New York.
I’ve been tested twice for jobs. not in NY location, but all the C suite sits in NY.
I’ve had several jobs, all in the northeast, and been tested only once. The job that tested had a home office in the Midwest. I think it’s very regional.
Fwiw, i was so shocked that they wanted a drug test that i seriously considered backing out of that job.
My first job tested (midwest), and my second (Denver office, San Francisco HQ). At my second job, we had contracts with… I think it was Aetna that made us test every time we signed a contract with them. So I was tested about annually for a while there.
When I got the offer for my current job, I was like ‘so, just a background check and a drug screen, and we’re good?’ and my boss laughed at the notion a company would run a drug screen.
The only thing I get high on is life.
That’s funny, I think the only jobs I ever got background-checked for were teaching. Can’t recall any insurance companies caring if I was a crook, so long as I was not a toker.
Oh, and my last two churches background-checked me before I could volunteer with kids.
My current employer runs background checks every year. I don’t recall getting drug tested here though. I did for three other employers. For one I also had to have a work physical done which was also done annually. Similar to a health risk assessment thing but no blood. I also was finger printed at one employer as well because it was an SEC requirement. Or at least that is what they said.
Same. I didn’t work with securities directly, but the company did, so everyone got the FBI background check and fingerprints taken.
Was physical fitness somehow a crucial part of the job? Like law enforcement or airline pilot?
That seems like it has the potential to be a HIPAA violation or something. I thought employers weren’t allowed to do that with only a few narrow exceptions.
My current employer runs a background check on everyone, they just don’t do any of the things that require specific permission, so the employees may not be aware of it. So did at least one prior employer. If guess most do.
I think most of the b/g checks are to make sure you didn’t commit any financial crimes. They aren’t gonna care about that simple assault charge 15 years ago in college.
Drug tests for 2/3 companies. Both HQ’d in Midwest. The one HQ’d in NY was the one that didn’t.
Oh, it’s possible that an employer was doing some sort of background check that I wasn’t aware of.
As a teacher and for a financial non-actuarial job I had to get fingerprinted and consent to some sort of FBI check. And for church and maybe VITA I had to consent to checks too.
Sheets are still not dry.
