My green card expires in 2 weeks along with my driver’s license. The process to renew it involves waiting until at least 90 days before expiry and then sending the people that care a bunch of crap. They are going to send me a “we received your crap” notice in 4-6 weeks that doubles as an automatic 24(?) month renewal but… my driver’s license will still expire. So much for driving for a while.
It won’t help for your driver’s license that expires in two weeks but are you eligible for citizenship? In the long run that might be easier.
One more year and I can do citizenship (must have your green card for 3 years if you’re married to an American citizen, 5 otherwise).
Update:
Good news – the electrician came back today, and it turns out the problem was in the panel, not the stove. He fixed it. So my stove is fine.
Bad news – This makes me anxious about the expertise and care of this electrician, who is doing rather major work on my house.
The excavators out front did nicer work than I expected, though. So that’s good news.
Canned dog food is back at Costco, but it’s chicken and rice only (used to be a mix of chicken and rice and lamb and rice) and a higher price. I noticed that it’s more mushy than before and wondered if that means watered down. I still have a can if the original and sure enough, the new ones have about 100 kcal/can (almost 20%) less.

Missed opportunity to brand it as a ‘weight control’ dog food, imo. Damn you, shrinkflation.
I had a hard time figuring the right balance of food for her (weight was fluctuating) so when her canned food hadn’t appeared at Costco for months and I had to find a replacement, the number of kcal/can was one of my considerations. I’d stocked up on the replacement canned food as I’d seen that there were supply issues with that (I saw a prediction that it won’t be back until 2023). I wonder if they’ll water it down, too.
A gentleman doesn’t comment on a lady’s weight. Grrr ![]()
I don’t know where to put this, so I will pick this thread about annoyances.
I know someone who was denied employment for an entry level job. There was an offer. The offer was rescinded. This was NOT in the insurance industry.
The reason was because the drug screen that was a requirement for the offer came back with a positive test on cannabis. This was in a state where cannabis is legal for recreational purposes.
It’s still illegal at the federal level, so your acquaintance is still breaking the law and I’m sure the employer has the right to deny employment on that basis.
That said, I’m not sure how wise it is. ![]()
It’s taking every fiber of my being to not nitpick/correct the second in command at the company when he sends out an email saying “Let’s meet tomorrow at 10:00 AM CST.”
True, but as a wider issue, even if it were legal on all levels cannabis-user is not a protected class. I think that means there is no prohibition on using it as an employment decision.
That’s true too.
I had an interview today and struggled to not fall asleep. Nothing to do with the candidate, I was simply hit with an overwhelming exhaustion and I desperately need a nap now. My eyes are watering and ugh. It’s only 5:15.
You could show up at 9 CDT, follow the 15 minute rule and when they ask where you where say you waited 15 minutes and since no one else bothered to show up you moved on to more important things. ![]()
There’s a large employer in my city who denies employment to people who test positive for nicotine.
Wow! That’s harsh. Probably helps insurance premiums though.
Yeah, it’s irrelevant whether cannabis is legal. Cannabis users aren’t a protected class.
But it also seems incredibly stupid to deny a job to someone for smoking weed on the weekend.
