And this is one of the things I don’t fully understand about using tariffs. You make imported stuff cost more to encourage domestic production. But those who are producing it domestically now can/will raise their prices to match or slightly undercut the imported price and if you ever remove the tariffs the domestic producers might be too used to the excess profits or have given some of the profits away to the production so they now wouldn’t be competitive with the imports and you lose the advantage. And for things where it currently costs too much to produce domestically basically the same thing, if you ever remove the tariffs the imports then beat you again.
Little Marco wants all NATO members to spend at least 5% of GDP on defence. Impossible, even if the USA wasn’t hurting every country’s economy through tariffs.
Could buy a lot of drones for that much spending.
I think a few drones would be a brilliant option for monitoring foreign fishing on the nose and the tail of the Grand Banks and along the edge of the EEZ. I suspect it would be cheaper and more effect that the C-130 that flies out to monitor that. I’ve heard some of them have tremendous loitering times and I’d think there’d be less crew fatigue.

There are going to be so many jobs that we won’t know what to do with all of the jobs that are coming back right here to the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA!
Schrödinger’s tariffs, simultaneously generating revenue from imports while also bringing all of the manufacturing back to the US.

I’d be concerned about the long-term implications of the normalization of such obstructions, but as there are questions about whether the republic will survive long enough for there to be a long-term…
Scott Bessent seems to be in a daze these days.
Kash Patel is out. He had a good run, lasting what, about six Scaramuccis?
Wow that’s surprising. Good news maybe? Hard to imagine a worse choice for that post. No doubt they will find someone to lower the bar even further.
