Yeah, playing the long game is not what gets you ahead in politics.
Agreed. He was one of the few appointments where I had a reaction of “not who I would pick but he might end up being ok”.
But if he’s sidelined and too cowardly to stand up to Trump then his personal beliefs don’t mean a whole lot.

at the same time, look back at Trump1.0 appointments. Some had credentials and merit and you had hope they’d do ok. then all such people eventually quit bc they realized he was an idiot who made their job impossible and had no respect for diplomacy, decency, precedent, or laws he disagreed with. how have their post-trump careers panned out (ignore writing memoirs)? there’s an aspect where the only people saying yes now are full on lackeys or totally delusional that they can make a difference. if rubio thought he’d build his resume and not be a lackey then he is in the latter.

I would have thought this is a department they should be beefing up.
History books in 50 years are going to be WILD, if this period is allowed to be taught.
Kids are going to be reading about how the country handed power to a billionaire and the richest man in the world who took an internet meme and created DOGE and used it to tear down government as we know it.
The sections on changing tariffs more than daily will leave them baffled. How could anybody have thought that was a good idea?
