Age limits aren't necessary

I don’t think age limits are necessary for politicians. If old age is so impairing to a politician, people will vote for someone else instead.

This is a very naive view of two party politics.

Well if people hated having two parties so much, they’d form their own party and then there would be three parties.

Like the Tea Party?

IIRC it was supposed to be this grassroots thing. I really liked the idea. Then it was infiltrated by the crazies.

No, a real choice. The Forward Party.

It’s going be to almost impossible to form a viable third party unless you have some form of ranked-choice voting.

If people wanted ranked choice voting so much, they’d vote for it to make it happen.

The choices we have to vote from come from a selection process (i.e. the primary system) based on how the most extreme people in society feel. With first past the post the notion that it’ll work itself out like in a market based system doesn’t end up happening because you fail to fulfill many of the assumptions underlying a competitive market

Is this colonelsmotthie promulgating the status quo?

We are in the best quo because if there were a better one, it would have been the quo instead.

We need more status quo.

I agree with this.

Um, clearly, they do not, even after seeing how old age does impair a politician. You are assuming too much of voters, a quarter of whom are deplorables.

Honestly, the real issue is a political party finding a suitable replacement, which, I believe, is what Replacement Theory is all about.
(Seeing if I can be as inane.)

At first I processed this as colonelsmoothie agreeing with himself. :upside_down_face:

Minimum age requirements for political office positions should be indexed to life expectancy inflation

I’d like to introduce you to my “friend”, Governor/VP Elbridge Gerry.

I thought Replacement Theory was about being replaced by robots. One day there will be only one person left on this site and all the rest of us will be bots (although I might already be that person).

That’s what they WANT you to think!!
(“They” meaning the robots, of course.)

What if you are just a bot programmed to think it is a human being?

You mean that we’re not all Jables?
