We got a box of full sized candy bars at Costco. Hope it’s enough. If not guess we’re turning the lights out early.
Man, not even the regular smarties but the discount ones from last year? Have you considered throwing some licorice and circus peanuts in the mix?
Summary
I actually like licorice, but I think most kids do not
I couldn’t even find big bags of Smarties this year. I usually buy a big bag of them as backup filler in case other supplies run low. I’m guessing they’re no longer considered hermetically sealed enough.
 Is this a thing?
I understand that everyone’s concerned about razor blades & whatnot in the snickers and whatnot, but Smarties are a classic HW candy & a Halloween without Smarties is a Halloween this American refuses to recognize.
Also, you are talking about American Smarties and not those imposter UK Smarties, right?
there is an age line above which most of us don’t like sour candies, so never gave them out ( unless you want no temptation in the house)
really? You think that’s related to age?
I love sour candies. I sometimes give out Smarties, but they are so small, it’s awkward. I didn’t see them this year, so I got some little bags of hermetically sealed gummy bears.
(But I love having leftover smarties around. Yum.)
Smarties aren’t really sour though… they’re slightly tart. I assumed PZ was referring to stuff like sour patch kids or warheads.
PZ says he doesn’t buy smarties because he doesn’t like them, because they are sour. At least, that’s how I read the post. @PatientZombie ?
Aren’t smarties different in the US vs Canada, too? Smarties in the US are pretty bland.
Although Google tells me Canadian smarties are chocolate, so those probably wouldn’t be sour either.
I don’t buy sour candy because I don’t like them, I lumped Smarties in with sour candy
Of course Smarties are popular in Canadia. They’re like a little piles of chalky hockey pucks with as much interesting things going on as a 0-0 hockey game after the 2nd halftime.
Uh, as opposed to what exactly?
I always called them Rockets.

I better get into the 50 box and check the Smarties. Quality control and stuff, ya unnerstan’…
Ever licked a piece of chalk?
i eat the chalks smarties. they are a watered down version of a sweet tart. doesn’t stop me from eating them, but tempers the enthusiasm
Yes, I have. I used to eat chalk sometimes, as a kid. I liked the way the dry chalk would “grip” my tongue. Okay, I was weird.
Tums actually do taste a lot like chalk. Smarties don’t, although the texture is similar. I always feel like tums are what you get when you mate chalk with smarties.

You’re referring to American Smarties.
Canadian Smarties are like plain M&M’s made from better chocolate and with less artificial flavoring,

:hsmack:
Same. TBH, in that general candy direction I was really into Spree as a kid. I don’t know if those exist anymore.
