Actuary in Central Park avoids punishment

“Sir, your angle is obtuse!”

right, because it is better than saying they have acute one

yeah, all the Puritans ended up in the U.S.

Calvinism is a big thing over here, you may have heard

Yep, so maybe 0.25 CE professionalism credit, 0.5, depending on how slow you are

Maybe re-read the precepts as a refresher

For me, perhaps re-read the emails I hung onto, just in case.

Yes, it absolutely has. You cannot do your job competently if you are dishonest enough to steal money from a cash register.

I would argue that stealing $200 from a cash register IS a financial crime.

Sounds like petty theft.

Yeah, I’m not opposed to having the ABCD look into it… to me it falls into a gray area. I wouldn’t have lost sleep over her losing her letters but I’m not losing sleep over her not losing her letters either.

I think if a credential actuary was in the position where they felt stealing $200 was necessary, that they probably have some things going on that have nothing to do with their capacity to act professionally as an actuary.

Like the already mentioned substance abuse issue. Possibly in some sort of mental health crisis due to unemployment or some other situation.

You may be competent, but untrustworthy. Different conditions but still a reason not to employ.

Two sides of the same coin. If part of an actuary’s job is to behave ethically and you have an inability to do so then I’d say you are incompetent to do the job.

“Behave ethically” sounds impossibly difficult to define if that is the standard.
