Actuarial Chess Club

Mine are:
Bullet (805) - Don’t really play too many games on this mode.
Blitz (974) - This has improved a couple hundred points since last time I made a remark about how low it was. I think if I played this regularly I can bring it up to 1100 at least.
Rapid (1047) - I don’t play often although I really should if I want to get as close to playing classical chess on chess dot com. Could probably bring it to 1100-1200 if I play regularly.
Daily (1446) - By far my best rating. It used to be in the 1100/1200s last year when I kept playing the same people who were all 1600 and above. My rating didn’t change much but I improved through the process. Since our most recent actuarial tourney, I’ve gained about 200 rating points here. Aiming to hit 1500 by the end of the year.
Daily 960 (1027) - Majority of my losses are to 1695814, so if I start playing more randoms, I should be able to get this to 1200.
Puzzles (2224) - It was as high as 2370..there are times when I am just on a bad streak and shouldn’t be doing puzzles, and will sometimes dip into the 2000s. In the event it does, I can quickly get it back it to the 2200s.

Overall, both my slow chess and fast chess have improved. Recently I’ve been in too many daily tourneys (Big Ol Actuarial, Under 1600, Under 1500, Under 1400), and it has definitely impacted my play as I don’t have as much time to think in 1 day non-vacation tourneys. Will be advancing to the next round in the Big Ol Actuarial tourney, got disqualified in the 2nd round of the Under 1600, and qualified for the 2nd round and 3rd round for the Under 1500 and Under 1400, respectively.

Oh boy…here’s chess dot com with another cash grab with their “being verified” and paying 15 dollars to apply for it. I don’t use Lichess (although I do have an account) but it’s stupid crap like this that’s making me consider switching platforms.

GDPR is “General Data Protection Regulation” in case you don’t know…like I didn’t…I wasn’t good enough at find the clarification of their gdpr policies, though.

As Seasplash said, you can pay $15 to say, “Hey, it’s really me!” Oh, boy!!!

Each game you play will become an NFT if both players opt in to that.

I’m out this time. Way too busy Q2 and have been chessed out lately.

I just do not like how all my tourneys are going to start around the same time. The Big Ol Actuarial Tourney just recently started, our regular tourneys are gonna start soon, and the Under 1400 championship round 3 (1 day no vacation) just started. There are only 46 people left in the Under 1400 so I think I’m just gonna play and give myself a chance at winning a Top 3 trophy.

I think we will delay the next iteration of the official chess tournament, with many players having a busy time, and the 2nd round of the big ol tournament starting. Feel free to send challenges to each other though in the meantime.

Had this fun position in an OTB game last night. I was white, and won pretty soon after we got here, but kinda crazy to have all the heavy pieces right next to each other.

If it’s white to move, QxRe1 has to be the only winning move correct?

It is white to move and Qxe1 loses. I played Rxf7

This is roughly where I am in life too.

  1. Get hard puzzle.

  2. Stare at the board for 5 minutes.

  3. Sacrifice a knight.

  4. “Why did I sacrifice my knight?”

What’s your username on chess dot com?

Ben Finegold: Never play f6, you patzer!

Also me: Proceeds to play f6 in my game vs @IPD, effectively losing the game

I really need to do a better job of playing against the Evans Gambit as black.

Would also like to add that daily is such an interesting form of chess. One would think with all the time in the world, you would come with a good move everytime.

I actually considered the Queen takes pawn move (which according to analysis was the best move), but for some reason went with knight blocks bishop.

When I also made the final move of rook threatens Queen, I just completely had a derp moment and forgot Queen takes rook, pawn takes Queen, bishops take Queen. Welp.

I am looking through some old games I played over 10 years ago when I was in the 1200-1650 range in standard USCF over the board play. Man, some of those games put a smile on my face.

As a 1250 I draw vs a 1909
As a 1280 I draw a 1911
As a 1300 I defeat a 1837 and draw a 2037 in the same tournament
As a 1650 I defeat a 2033 (my best official win ever. My rating went down that tournament because I also lost to a 1160, d’oh!)

I used to be a d4 player! Apparently in 2010 I switched to e4 and never looked back. I’m so glad I kept all my old notation, some really fun games to look through and review.

Even though we’ve played a good # of blitz games together, I still get surprised when you throw in the occasional d4. Always try to go for the Nimzo-Indian as black when I can.

I just played a blitz game where analysis said I had two brilliant moves. I don’t think I’ve ever had that happen before. Of course in the first brilliant move, I didn’t follow through for why it would be brilliant, but oh well.

lol at that ending

Anyone following the Candidates? I’m rooting for Hikaru but I’m concerned his loss against Fabi as black in Round 1 is gonna affect his performance later on. Can’t think of a worse/most difficult opponent to start the tournament against than Fabiano.

I’m watching a little. I imagine Hikaru must feel soooooo weird with an hour on the clock and no jams to sing-along to or fans to meme at.

Even watching him in a blitz game, he’ll be like
“Okay, this is an important move and I have 5 minutes to calculate…”
…5 seconds later, moves anyway.
1 second after moving. “Shoot! that’s a blunder.”

I feel bad for Hikaru. He almost had that game against Nepo.
