Accountants professional liability

So accountants are in the news and are saying not to rely on financial statements they have prepared. Presumably these accountants have not audited or certified these financial statements, and of course they rely on data supplied to them by the client.
But does that absolve the accountants of all liability? Surely they know others will rely on these financial statements.

No different than actuaries opining without verifying the data source and methodology. As long as you document that you should be absolved of the liabilities.

Reminds me of Trump’s lawyers saying that the claims of election fraud were so preposterous that defamation lawsuits should be dismissed. We’ll see how that turns out. Not dismissed so far.
