AARP (lets find the deals)

All this retirement talk got me interested in other things. I just joined AARP. $9 for 5 years. I will see if there is anything worth while.

Anyone find something they’d recommend through AARP?

There are lots of discounts, nothing that I’ve found that’s too exciting but almost anyplace that offers a senior discount will give it to you when you show your AARP card. There are a lot of restaurants, hotels, hair salons etc where you may save some money but there also may still be a better deal.

the monthly (or so) magazine(s) read like the old Parade magazine that used to be in the sunday paper. more overtly aimed at old folk. a few good articles here and there. a lot aimed at people more clueless than i am

My uncle bought HO and PPA insurance through an AARP affinity deal with … Hartford Mutual I think. It was cheaper than he had been paying elsewhere.

their term life with no exam is higher cost than similar thing from AAA. and has lower face value offered

The term life is pretty expensive through AARP. I thought about getting some vs my kids taking over my home + anything else that would go into probate. Let em take the life insurance money NQA. I believe life insurance it all tax free and outta probate (at least I recall discussing that with my financial guy years ago). I still have a WL policy with a $200K value that I’ve had since I got outta college. It is making more $ than the premiums I am putting in there (and it is paid up at my 65 y/o)

Auto + Home Insurance (Bundle through Hartford) would be $150 more a year.
