A Reminder of where America is heading

I always though Couer D’Alene was a fairly liberal place (for Idaho).

I thought it was home to some of the largest white supremacist and anti-government militias groups in the country.

I’ve never been there, and I don’t know why I thought that.

I hear it’s beautiful up there though.

This is from 2012. Couer d’Alene is basically in the center of Kootenai County.

Bump looking for the blue team being fascists.

It’s mostly just projection from those in denial of how bad their team has become along with the long term brain damage caused by fox news convincing people democrats are evil.

Good spot for this, because whites are better than all other races, and children of all colors need to be reminded, every school day (/s, cuz too hard to red-font):

I think it is silly to attempt to restore Confederate names. But there was also a mania during COVID with the rampant name changing.

Or, a moment of clarity 100 years too late?

There was an awful lot of telling/educating both black and white people “how they should feel”.

There were also a lot of people doing a really poor job of explaining why they wanted to keep around statues of Robert E Lee when asked.

I like statues.

When MAGA talk about the deep state, to me, they are talking about the government officials whose role it is to follow the procedures and regulations particularly when it is not favourable to MAGA desires.

So here the school board argues that it was about following the procedure blah blah and they don’t see the irony

Remember not to tell the truth to anyone, lest be fired for it, since it hurts a Republican and his wallet (Yes, DeSantis is probably getting paid, somehow.)

Bump, for corporations trying to rid US of democracy:

Strange that The Vanguard Group is on there because of this:

The Vanguard Group was included in the report due to its role in financing some of the world’s most anti-democratic corporations.

I wonder what they mean by “financing” them. Buying shares directly from them, or buying their bonds directly from them? Because, if they bought them second-hand, they are not “financing” the corporations. Sure, with a large enough block they might be able to influence a company to do anti-democratic actions. But simply owning stock (and selling that to others via passive mutual funds cuz in S&P500, so, they actually don’t “own” the shares, themself) shouldn’t make Vanguard automatically complicit.

With regards to Musk, he wants AI deregulation and I expect Trump to let the big tech firms do whatever they want with regards to AI development. I think the idea is that China will be able to beat the USA at AI because they are not subject to privacy concerns and other things.

Just look at Palantir and Peter Thiel. He wants the gov to deploy AI based technologies to spy on everyone as to reduce crime, prevent terrorism, etc. China probably already does all this stuff.

I found that comic as well. I notice that happens a lot in displays of ownership. Vanguard is huge in all the S&P 500 corps.

I believe it is a function of the Vanguard firm. It is literally owned by the mutual fund shareholders. I have no clue what art of legalese gets that through the 40 act…but there it is.

I don’t generally share the OP pessimism here, but this bit caught me off guard.

Americans are divided over support for a policy that would round up and deport immigrants who are in the country illegally, even if it takes setting up encampments guarded by the U.S. military (47% favor, 50% oppose).

We should put them to work, too, with no pay.
And feed them very little.
And, when they die…
And, when they are of no use to us anymore…

I know what one of our candidates will do, based on his political philosophy.
Oh, and traitors, based on his definition, will also go to these camps, since they would already be set up. Probably need to identify which people are which in the camp. Anyone have any ideas?
