A Reminder of where America is heading

Gotcha… I thought that’s the one they were talking about. But regardless, it’s dumb to fire a good employee for putting pronouns in his auto signature.

The parallels are striking…

It’s one thing to block future grant proposals, but ones already awarded?

In an unprecedented move, the US National Institutes of Health (NIH) has begun mass terminations of research grants that fund active scientific projects because they no longer meet “agency priorities”.

NIH staff members have been instructed to identify and potentially cancel grants for projects studying transgender populations, gender identity, diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) in the scientific workforce, environmental justice and any other research that might be perceived to discriminate on the basis of race or ethnicity, according to documents and an audio recording that Nature has obtained. Grants that allot funding to universities in China and those related to climate change are also under scrutiny.

Hey, they tried to defund essentially every grant to a university (currently, they are losing in court but haven’t paid up) so this seems like small potatoes. Not every grant, just bad ones!

I assume they’ll lose this in court, too. But they may slow the money enough to kill a lot of research anyway. :worried:

This Is the Biggest Trump-Musk Scandal That No One’s Talking About | The New Republic?

Maybe its me, but I feel that regularly posting anti-semitic and white supremacist stuff under your own name perhaps means that you aren’t media savvy enough to be :checks notes: a deputy press secretary.

But he’s just saving the USA.

Saw this, thought, We Americans were ever pretty?

Guess no one wanted to inflate our heads while we were but too late to enjoy that now

These Words Are Disappearing in the New Trump Administration The Words Federal Agencies Are Discouraged From Using Under Trump - The New York Times

This war on woke is idiotic. Many of these words are used in contexts that have nothing to do with what they hope to eliminate.

I’m of the opinion this is one of the bright shiny objects they use to distract us and generate outrage while they destroy and loot the government.

The ground has already shifted big time in the EU.

The US is simply not an ally anymore, and this is becoming increasingly obvious with Trump’s behavior

They are only really considering UK, Norway, Canada as non-EU for the defense procurement.

If I were Canada I would cancel the F-35 order. You can’t rely on the US for anything critical, as they will use it against you later.

And I expect many more US refugees heading out to the UK as the situation in the US keeps deteriorating.

So my understanding is:

Trump will ignore unfavourable Supreme Court decisions.

Trump followers will believe anything he says and slavishly support him.

The opposition to Trump is afraid of him and thus ineffective.

Republicans control the House and Senate.

Where are the checks and balances to his power? Hasn’t he already succeeded?

Inspiring story about how recent immigration has helped to revitalize St. Louis. Why can’t Trump see the benefit of these hard-working recent immigrants? Could it be where they come from?

The Courts will eventually catch up with him and we will just have to see what happens*

The only chance the US has to stop Trump is via the midterms.

If Trump loses his trifecta, he would not be able to ignore the decisions as he is doing now.

*The big one is going to be the SC. It looks like the swing vote might actually be Barrett (can’t believe I just typed that)

Meanwhile, Canada is working to grant legal status to thousands of undocumented migrants working in construction because we need them. Got to use up that lumber that the US no longer needs.

Ottawa plans to launch new immigration stream for undocumented migrants working in construction

VANMALA SUBRAMANIAMFUTURE OF WORK REPORTER

PUBLISHED MARCH 7, 2025

The federal government is planning to launch a new immigration program that would grant legal status to thousands of undocumented migrants working in construction, in an effort to address a labour shortage that unions and associations say is hamstringing the sector.

Details remain scant, but Immigration Minister Marc Miller said the government would reserve space for 6,000 undocumented workers across the country to be legalized. Many of them came to Canada legally, but their temporary work visas have expired.

US Defense companies are going to lose lots of business in Europe. Using US Military hardware has now become a national security risk.
