Only when they themselves were dying did they care.
Vaccine fear seems a bit like the fear of flying where it is fairly easy to become irrational due to the perceived lack of control of an outcome. Getting sick does not lead to a high chance of death just like most car accidents are not fatal which means you get a “chance” to recover from each. But plane crashes and rare vaccine reactions can be devastating even if the chance of that happening is nearly 0.
Not reschedules, cancels. One suggestion floated is to take guidance on composition from WHO, although the US has pulled out of that so not clear if that’s an option.
I guess next year’s flu can be called the Trump flu
My first email of the day:
Perhaps it might be time to start finagling an excuse to go into my current or former offices (in the UK or Canda) during vaccine season…
Gotta get next season’s flu shot from Mexico I guess.
The flu is bad. He’ll be single-handedly responsible for thousands of deaths this year if he doesn’t get on it with that vaccine. Possibly his own given his age.
I think it will be when it’s millions, or hopefully just hundreds or thousands of kids.
I’ve had people tell me that Covid mostly just shortened people’s life-cycles. Someone dying at 75 instead of 76… that sort of thing.
Now the reality is that Covid killed over 1,600 kids whereas in 1950 only 500 kids died from measles.
My only hope is that since kids were like 0.1% of Covid deaths but virtually all of the measles deaths that measles deaths somehow have more impact. Also with the population having more than doubled since 1950, 500 kids in 1950 would be like 1,100 kids today, but of course most kids today are vaccinated so you won’t see those kinds of numbers.
Many countries only push the seasonal flu shot for elderly or immune compromised people.
We might be going from “pushing” to ignoring or denying.
Looks like Breadmaker will have to suggest we go out for flu shots sometime.
We.might seriously be in for some medical tourism to Canada and Mexico if you want flu shots or any other vaccination.
We were thinking the same thing. Might be headed to Seattle for thanksgiving again, with a quick trip to Vancouver for a stabbing.
Can’t find articles, but people on Bluesky, including a guy who recently wrote a book about TB, think that the US has killed funding for most TB prevention programs worldwide.
I posted in the DOGE thread earlier, but this seems to be a reliable source:
They also canned funds to counter malaria, among many other things.
You may want to postpone that outing, since apparently Dr. Kennedy postponed indefinitely the regular meeting that works on choosing strains to build next season’s flu shot.
I heard that “measles parties” might have fueled these recent outbreaks (they probably thought it’s basically the same thing as chicken pox)
