Is it generally found indoors (as a decorative item)?

Vorian_Atreides: Is it a physical object? Yes
John.S.Mill: is it more dense than water No
The_President: Is it smaller than a bread box? Yes, generally
Vorian_Atreides: Is it alive or alive at some point in time? No
John.S.Mill: is it man made Yes
The_President: Is it decorative? Yes
John.S.Mill: can you cut it with a pair of scissors that depends, but probably
The_President: Would it be damaged if you dropped it on a hard floor from 5 feet? No
Vorian_Atreides: Is it generally found indoors (as a decorative item)? Yes

is it generally found in a specific type of room?

Excuse me while I… go and drop some stuff.

doesn’t get damaged, but floats. Candle?

Thought about it, but I feel like wax can dent from 5 feet.

I would view “damage” as being that it would generally make the object useless for its intended purpose.

“Dent” would only impact its cosmetic value (less decorous, to be sure, but still functional).

Candle seems like a good guess . . . I’ll give it some more thought over the weekend.

Depending on how she interpreted #4 - all sorts of plastic items would fit.

Plastic may have been manufactured from stuff that was created from stuff that developed from something that was once alive, but there’s no way I would say that a plastic fork “is alive or was alive at some point in time”.

A carrot or a squirrel is alive. A dead leaf was once alive. A fur coat was made of pieces of things that were once alive – even that is borderline. That coat, the object, was never alive.

Does the object have movable components?

This is how I would interpret it too. I didn’t want to speak for anyone else though…

It seemed worth clarifying. I don’t want to be unintentionally misleading.

A taper candle or one in a jar could easily break if you dropped it from 5 ft. A broken candle is certainly damaged. Maybe a tea light could survive unscathed.

Also it’s made from plant matter, but I guess as the question was asked it was not formerly alive.

Anyway, I can’t think of any candle that has moving parts, so not a candle.

Hmmm…

Wood is usually less dense than water but it would be hard to cut with scissors.

Fabric maybe? Curtains might work, but they are part decorative, part functional. And some wouldn’t fit in a bread box. I guess most shower curtains would but they are found in a specific type of room.

Plastic would often be less dense than water. What’s plastic and decorative?

Is it typically found in a home? (given the object)

I dunno about yours, but my shower curtains are certainly decorative. I mean, they are also functional, but i paid and extra 2 bucks to get a pretty pattern, and not the plain off-white ones. They are typically found in the bathroom, though, so unlikely to be this object.
