You got me! I was sloppy.

although…

… from googling to confirm this fact I learned that male guppies will “mate” with other fish, even male platies, but these mating attempts do not produce any fry.

Well see now I’m glad I was sloppy in my post because that is an interesting fact that I didn’t know. I guess some dogs will try to “mate” with pretty much anything, so it’s not too shocking that others species try this too.
