20Q Game 27

Possibly some type of an OWL.

Oooh, an owl is common, but almost never seen.

Although I got a crappy photo of a barred owl last year.

can it achieve speeds of over 100mph?

don’t ask that – that’s like one animal

I’ve actually canoed to where bald eagles recently left their nest, and got an excellent view of the juveniles, just hanging out on the rocks and in low trees. And I’ve seen the adults pretty clearly with binoculars.

I once saw a peregrine falcon chasing a pigeon from my office in NYC. Damn, that thing was fast.

  1. Lucy - Is it manmade? No
  2. Tiffany - Is it alive? Yes
  3. MayanActuary - Is it an animal? Yes
  4. Soyleche - If I were in the presence of it, would I most likely be at a zoo? Maybe. You would definitely see it better at a zoo than in the wild

  7. Lucy - Is it a bird? Yes

I’ll count it, but make it 10.5

My hometown has a pair of them, with a nest cam. They had 3 eggs this year, 2 have hatched so far (yesterday and the day before, so maybe the third before the end of the week).

I think an Osprey or some species of Owl are decent guesses.

Does it weigh more than 3.5 pounds?

Ooh, so not an owl. Not an osprey, nor a turkey vulture.
Eagles weigh that much.

Almost there. Standardized name according to Kaufman Field Guide to Birds of North America.

its bald eagle but i don’t wanna guess

Probably. Though I’ve seen hundreds in the wild, with and without binoculars. Not sure if I’ve ever seen one in a zoo. Maybe.

I’ve seen them closer in the wild than in a zoo, but the OP might not have.

Fine - I will.

I’ve seen them up close at zoos like the Smithsonian in DC, Busch Gardens, Lowry Park, Detroit, and some others. In the wild, I usually see them soaring in the sky where I live.
