2028 Los Angeles Olympics

LA is planning to make the 2028 Olympics car-free. There may be a lot of aerial taxis by then -

Baseball, Softball, Lacrosse, and Cricket seem to be on the roster for new Olympic Sports in 2028. Break Dancing is not coming back in 2028.

What the … that’s it, I’m boycotting the Summer Olympics for the next 4 years.

But lacrosse will be there!

Hope the I.O.C. permits the Haudenosaunee to participate even if it means Canada getting bumped. There does not appear to be the risk of setting a precedent because of the uniqueness of the situation.

Swimming is going to be exciting. Katie Ledecky recently broke her 9 year old WR in the 800m, then Summer McIntosh set world records in the 200 IM and 400 free, and put up the 3rd fastest 800m of all time.

I’d be extremely surprised to see it happen, but I’d love to see a Haudenosaunee flag in the parade of nations.

And Summer just set her third world record in 5 days beating her own 400 IM time. I thought she might have difficulty maintaining the level of her last Olympics but apparently not. She owns the IM.

The 800m will be the real test but Summer>Katie in last night’s 400m freestyle.

The US team got really sick prior to the meet, with half the team yet to arrive. I’m not sure how seriously to take the results as a benchmark.

I will put an asterisk beside Summer’s golds.

My money is on Ledecky to win the much-hyped 800 metre free-style. It should be exciting but it is not Summer’s ideal distance nor her best stroke.

Nah, she’s so far ahead that it wouldn’t have made a difference. Her butterfly was amazing.

It will be interesting to see how the 12 year old Li improves by 2028. Very promising with two 4th places so far. Some women peak in their mid-teens though, such as Janet Evans and that 14 yo Japanese Olympic champion from a few Olympics ago.

Olympic Soccer venues announced: all over the USA, played at MLS stadiums.

Also, only 12 men’s teams, as clubs are not obligated to release players for it, as well as the age limit for most of the team.

Good news is the the USMNT (U23, mostly) is automatic. They’ve had trouble qualifying in the past.

It’s not clear who is going to be competing in what distances, but the women’s 800m in track right now is insane. (Women’s 800m in swimming too, with Pallister handing Ledecky her first ever international loss last week)
