Vancouver is a pretty easy day trip from Seattle. Or you can crash in my basement with all my other visitors.
Round of 16 would be awesome as there will be two quality teams trying their hardest. Whereas the last game of group rounds is often pretty meaningless.
Edit: Whoops, I forgot there will be round of 32. They might be worth a look. Interesting that quarter finals and beyond will all be held in USA.
I think LA gets the USMNT for the US opener, so they will stay west early. I believe that means a match in SEA and yet another in LA
Tickets for the US matches will be massively oversubscribed so I won’t try to see them play. I enjoy watching most of the European and South American teams so would be thrilled to see any of them play.
Good to know (I won’t have a hope of getting tickets for those matches).
The schedule is so compressed I think sticking to one city is the best move. Seattle/Vancouver or NYC/PHL/BOS are possibilities, but that would.be a lot of travel in a tight timeline.
I’m probably sticking home and trying to see as many games as possible here
If any of you are thinking about ATL for World Cup my preliminary recommendation is to stay in Decatur. It has a nice walkable town square area with plenty of good bars and restaurants, and you can hop on the metro and get to the stadium without transfers. I’m guessing many international travelers will look at Atlanta city itself, so Decatur might be a nice and more affordable alternative
Berhalter not all that thrilled with West Coast matches, as the team will be training in ATL.
So now, the organization has to decide on the optimal move to the West Coast ahead of the matches.
I’d tell them to scratch it. Just practice in SoCal area for the month or two weeks ahead.
Canada Soccer is in much disarray (like Hockey Canada) so have heard no announcenent on where or when Canada’s matches will be played. Given it is a five hour flight between Toronto and Vancouver they may play all the first round matches in Toronto? I am fine with that as there are lots of other teams I would love to see in Vancouver. However Toronto has huge Italian and Portuguese populations and they would prefer seeing their former countries play.
My English SIL and my daughter are taking a sabbatical year in 2026 and living in North America. I imagine their travel schedule will be greatly influenced by where England’s matches are.
I just looked at Wiki, and first one is in Toronto, the second two in Vancouver.
Guessing Toronto has a ton of different populations, but the draw will not be affected by that. Heck, even WC Euro qualifying isn’t affected by that.
Toronto is really getting shafted. Funny that this info is on Wikipedia but not on the Soccer Canada site yet!
And you win for it!
Toronto’s stadium is the smallest of the lot. It doesn’t deserve anything. They’re getting five Group matches and one Round of 32 and they should be happy with their lot in life.
Now I understand. Toronto is using BMO Field (soccer stadium) for their matches rather than the much larger Skydome. Vancouver is using the 55,000 seat football stadium.
Must upgrade my Soccer Canada status in due course to get the first crack at those Vancouver games. Or befriend some people in high places. No longer have any corporate connections to piggyback off of.
Blame the Ford brothers?
And Vancouver gets the Team Canada Round of 32 and Round of 16 matches if they get that far. All good.
I liked to blame them for everything that went wrong in Toronto and Ontario but it didn’t seem fair to keep blaming Rob after he died (but I did for a while).
I’m guessing the Blue Jays may have been a bigger obstacle as they play in the main Toronto stadium and may not have been willing to share? In contrast, BC Place in Vancouver only has the BC Lions: CFL teams are easily kicked to the curb if a big event comes along. And they only have a home game every two weeks on average.
They’re bringing in a ‘sin bin’ card next year (which they’ve had in rugby for about 20 years). Hopefully it will make its way up to international level eventually. Confusingly they’re keeping the yellow card and introducing a blue card for a 10 minute sin bin. Rugby gives the yellow card for the sin bin. I say if the offense is egregious enough to warrant a yellow card, give them a 10 minute break.
Trials.
I think there is some circuit (HS, Club) in SoCal that uses them. Someone brought one out and explained it to us this past weekend at a referee class that did not involve those two circuits I mentioned.
I think the current method is perfectly cromulent.
Fans won’t be seeing the blue card in top level competitions like the Premier League, LaLiga, the UEFA Champions League, Euro 2024 or the Copa America, however. The trial over the course of next season won’t be permitted at the very top level, and it would be 2026-27 at the earliest before it could enter the Laws of the Game.
So, maybe The MLS will use it.
Hay-yo!
