2026 FIFA World Cup Discussion

Perhaps some of the teams might not even show up. I’m not sure if Trump cares whether it goes ahead or not. Can they play all the games in Mexico and Canada?

Thats got to be a record. Thats a new level of absurd.

Just a UK national who should be ok.

Will make it easier for me to get tickets if the USA clamps down on visas! And I am ok if some matches get relocated to Vancouver and Toronto! The only football Trump cares about is the NFL version.

Eh. Not since they stopped him from buying the Bills.

Good thing they did as he hates losers.

Have they announced a way to buy tickets other than buying their ecards and getting a set?

Look, this whole visa “problem” thing is overblown. There will be a simple 3-step process used by ICE to get visitors in efficiently:

  1. Anyone who doesn’t look white will be deemed a criminal and denied entry.
  2. Anyone who clears 1 will be about about their loyalty to, and affection for, Donald Trump. Those who don’t demonstrate sufficiently loyalty and affection will be deemed a criminal and denied entry.
  3. Those who clear 1 and 2 will be “asked” for a “contribution” to a “foundation” for Trump. Anyone who refuses to donate a sufficient amount will be deemed a criminal and denied entry. [Any contributions made will be kept as “proof” of criminal behavior and not returned.]

It’s completely foolproof.

I assume there is a contingency plan in case USA cannot make this happen. MEX has plenty of grass stadiums.

I got to see the North London Derby a few weeks ago at Emirates Stadium. Was a pretty cool experience, even though I had to wear neutral colors and “cheer” for Arsenal. That’s my second live game.

Received a lot of information today on the process to get WC tickets through our national soccer body. Not surprisingly, your odds improve by making donations.

I don’t like paying money just to get the privilege of paying more money but I expect this approach will be universal to get a better crack at WC tickets.

I am a CanadaRED member but in the free category.

Sucks.
Like seat licenses that you buy which give you the right to purchase actual tickets for those seats.

I think I’ll wait around on the Grounds, see if I can buy below face. If not, I’ll go to the nearest pub, which I was going to do anyway (though nearer to my own residence and not Inglewood).
One ticket might be easier to buy.

I am thinking of buying tickets to the cluc wc final or semi final. Final tickets are starting at $600 per and semifinal is starting at $300 per. Do yall think that the resale price will be more than that? I would only buy to resell as I have no personal interest in attending a match.

I would not personally buy Club WC tickets just with the intent of making money on resale. I just don’t see many Americans willing to pay big bucks for this event? And a lot of foreigners may be hesitant about visiting the US as Trump alienates more countries? Maybe I am biased as a Canadian on that latter aspect.

My comments above don’t apply to the 2026 WC as that is such a hugely popular event globally.

I think there is now a non-zero chance that the WC will be boycotted by a few countries.

There is a non-zero chance that the USA will not host. That means a lot of matches in Mexico with their traditional anti-homosexual chant, on display in (MLS) San Diego FC’s first home match (stay classy, Mexicans and descendants of Mexicans).
Also, Mexico seems to have only 8 or so stadiums greater than 40K (minimum for Group Stage matches). I checked only the LigaMX ones.
Canada has only two CFL stadiums larger than 40K (BC Place and Edmonton) (BMO (Toronto FC) getting expanded).

An additional issue for Canada.

Go right ahead. We 'Muricans don’t give a lick about soccer.

I think there’s a non-zero chance some country that’s supposed to play in the U.S. is denied entry on the grounds that letting the team in poses a “security threat” to the U.S. How FIFA decides to roll over and play dead in an even more grotesque way than it did for Qatar and it’s doing for Saudi Arabia, 2034 remains to be seen.

As far as countries boycotting: expect them for the Summer Olympics in Los Angeles based on how the U.S. handles visitors next year.

Canada would never boycott a US Olympics but the Canadian fans attending will be way down.

Maybe the Canadian teams medal count will be increased 25%
