“Bring on the tyros, the neophytes, and the dilettantes,…”
SUN and BOU back to normal.
I had a flashback to Cantona’s drop-kick of a fan back in the 90s
That was wild.
Turns out Mamdani is an Arsenal fan.
I had no idea he followed footie.
If I had known, I would have said nicer things about his opponents.
Might be a factor in getting elected in the UK but not in the US!
I have worked with many folks with East African origins and they were EPL followers. Most were Liverpool fans though.
Great match at NEW v TOT today.
Nice that there were two matches on the telly today. They usually only show one per day in the midweek.
This may be the highlight of the Spurs season.
More whingeing about the schedule. Poor me, my team’s in too many competitions! Add a day to the week!
Simplest solution would be for the EPL to drop to 18 teams. After next season, relegate 4 teams, add 2. Compromise that neither league will like. That drops 4 matches from the schedule. More space to breathe. Wouldn’t need this midweek set of matches.
This is the middle of three midweeks in a row. ARS get a break from the fourth, as CP play their final League Phase UECL match that midweek, and they play each other in CP’s fifth midweek in a row (UECL, EPL, UECL, UECL, EFL Cup).
CP playing, between 11/22 and 1/7:
10 EPL matches (all teams do this)
1 EFL Cup match (only 8 teams doing this)
3 UEFL matches (one more than other Euro teams)
Later in January, they might have to play two extra UECL matches. Two wins against lesser teams might help. 8th place has 8 points, and there are ten teams between them and that spot.
Probably no more EFL Cup matches, cuz ARS.
Combining two of the international breaks might help a little. Especially for those players not chosen.
At this rate, Slot is going to get fired before the end of the season.
They’ll never do it because of money, but get rid of the EFL cup. It’s of lesser importance, and many premier league teams trot out their bench for the matches as a result.
Salah is likely to leave Liverpool.
What is it with Dutch managers. They seem to be terrible at managing people.
Should have let him go and keep TAA.
Egypt plays NZ WC match here on June 21. That may actually be a game where tickets are available so may try to get them to see Salah play
I don’t think keeping TAA was an option. Salah was only worth keeping if he can be sold at profit (to his current contract) to a Saudi team.
Oh, and LIV thank him for lowering his value to Cristiano’s level.
MUN-BOU match today was pretty entertaining. 4-4, several lead changes.
Now calling them the “Festive Features,” in which, instead of doing what many Euro leagues do and shut down for two weeks, EPL will have 4 matches.
Salah is going back and will be fine. They could have kept TAA if they gave him the C. Would have really meant letting VvD go, but he’s no C. Wirtz is starting to feel the EPL. Losing Isak means Ekitike plays and when he plays he scores. Won’t be surprised to see Harvey back. He’s a great 65’ sub, especially when tied w a lesser team. Things will get tighter before they are settled.
Black Monday now happening in Soccer!
Amorim (MUN) and Nancy (Celtic) gone.
Best for Amorim, since MUN, according to him, were not going to try to improve the team in January.
Nancy, though… besides losing four (winning two) SPL matches and STILL in 2nd place. Head of operations also gone.
What should MUN do? This guy thinks they need to go BIG!
I don’t think the ownership/management team wants BIG. They are more likely to see what CHE do (find someone who only coaches the team the owners make) and think that is the right thing.
It’s as if they think all they have to do is be 17th or better in the league, as gunning for higher placement costs more, times P(success), and is the payout (Euro leagues, more matches at home) higher than this product?
