Y’all are cementing meep’s hatred of this topic
I thought that was already set in stone?
Gotcha… I wonder how the precision of the lines on the tracks compares to the precision in the lengths of the swimming pools.
they are supposed to remeasure and restripe the track if needed - to get it certified for competition. they can’t as easily fix lane 3 of the pool that is a centimeter off
No a pool is harder to fix, but how often are they off was my question.
in advance of a meet like that where records likely occur, they should have had all the measuring certified in advance
I meant how often is the swimming pool off by a centimeter?
This reminds me of the precision required for the surface of the speed skating oval at our 2010 Winter Olympics. I was amazed the construction could be so precise. A sample:
The International Skating Union only allows a deviation of 3 millimeters (0.12 in) per 3 meters (9.8 ft) of track, and 20 millimeters (0.79 in) along the entire course.
American contractors: “20, 21, … whatever it takes.”

Mondo’s 10.37 beat Karsten’s 10.47
They really milked it. 30 minutes for a race that takes under 15 seconds.
Yeah, I treated it like a radio broadcast and did other things until they actually got set in the blocks.

Summer McIntosh wins Canada’s Athlete of the Year award for her Olympic performance.
There were world records in 4 consecutive races to start night 1 in the short course world championships. Crazy. McIntosh started in the 400m free, then Gretchen Walsh broke her 50m fly record in the semis, her previous record having been set in the morning during qualifications. The men’s 50m fly record was next, also a semifinal, and Kate Douglas then won the 200 IM in WR time, beating Gretchen’s older sister Alex in the race.
Fast pool?
Probably to some extent, but also the SC worlds used to not be important to the top American swimmers. But short course is growing in popularity. And the UVA women have been crushing it in SCY pools lately so the times aren’t huge shocks.
