I’ve often thought something like this is a good idea…perhaps, move the kickoff spot back to the 20 yard line or something.
My other brilliant idea is that the k-ball should be that old fashioned oblong thing and all of the kicks need to be drop kicks.
Anything that should give a behind-two-scores team to catch up is fine by me.
4th and 25 from the X yard line (no idea what a good X would be) for the team that just scored. It also gives the winning teams a chance to run it up.
Oh! Another brilliant idea that I had “4th” and 10 (or perhaps more) from the goal line. Make the consequences of not making it severe.
We can work out the yard line and yards to go later. Quibbling details IMO, which can be worked out by “experts” later. Team always has the choice to punt. Takes kickoffs completely out of the game whatever the final determination.
BRILLIANT!
Still wondering when Aaron Donald is returning. I mean, I don’t want to see it, since SEA plays LAR on the final week. Dude hasn’t been in human crashes for the past 12 weeks, be very fresh. No, thanks. But, LAR could probably used him for 1/4 salary.
Was anyone watching MNF?
That play on the blocked punt was crazy.
I don’t understand the logic of making it a dead ball if the punting team recovers the ball. I’m assuming that is in fact the rule and the officials got it right (unlike, oh, the face mask on Joe Burrow, for example). But assuming the officials called that one correctly it’s kind of a strange rule IMO. Why not let the recovering player run with the ball? The player obviously wasn’t aware of the rule because he DID run with it (and Dallas tackled him)… the yards he gained just didn’t count.
Obviously it won’t come up very often. I’m not sure I’ve ever seen that particular sequence of events before.
It became irrelevant right after… still an odd rule IMO.
I should be, need fantasy points from the DAL QB, for pride purposes, as I am not in contention.
Oh it’s over… was over when I made the post.
No problem. He dogged it.
From Reddit:
Until the late 20’s, the kicking team was able to advance a kick. But there were fewer and fewer returns because returners were letting kicks bounce instead of trying to catch it and possibly giving up an easy touchdown. The rule makers wanted to increase punt returns, so they made the ball dead when recovered by the kicking team.
The punting team can advance a blocked punt if the ball is blocked behind the line of scrimmage.
A blocked punt that crosses the line of scrimmage is treated as a “normal” punt. The fact that it was blocked/tipped doesn’t matter.
On a punt, if the receiving team touches the ball beyond the line of scrimmage (muffed punt), it is a live ball but the kicking team may not advance it.
On a punt, if the receiving team possesses the ball and fumbles, it is a live ball and may be advanced by the kicking team similar to any other fumble.
Yeah, I wasn’t asking what the rules are so much as why. OldTimer addressed that though.
why the hell won’t dallas try Trey Lance? What do they have to lose?
he is still like the 6th youngest QB in the league
Good night on the field for Burrow but this must have sucked to come home to.
Did they take the batmobile?!?!
Good grief!
Article mentions a number of other NBA and NFL players targeted.
Yeah, it’s been a thing this year
The lack of self awareness is staggering
