I’m surprised that more successful last-year-rookie-deal QBs aren’t traded for a high draft pick. Then again, who would trade their high draft pick that they would use on a new QB anyway?
Just watching NYG’s “Hard Knocks,” and they are trying to finagle a deal to move up for a newer QB, but no bites.
All I know on this subject was that Russell Wilson made $681K the year the Seahawks won the SB and that enabled them to spend a ton on a great defence.
Repeated references to the Pats’ strategy of duping other teams into paying too much (in trade or in FA offers) and replacing with capable players. the league’s GM’s have gotten a tad smarter since then. But being willing to part with overpriced (according to other GMs) players, no matter how popular, is still a viable strategy.
Otherwise, it seems the whole league is in “Moneyball Mode,” as opposed to only the A’s on the early 00’s. I.e., finding value in players that the others can’t.
Lastly, the QB that doesn’t ask for all the money might be the unicorn farting the rainbow. The QB (well, agent taking 10%, actually) that realizes it is a team sport, and preferring to be able-bodied at 60 years old requires a top-notch O-Line now.
So far the Falcons have been bitten by the injury bug, losing Rondale More and 3rd round pick Trice for the season. Likely starting safety Hellams also will miss “significant time”.
They just swung a big deal getting Matt Judon for a 3rd round pick. I’m sure he wants a new deal out of it. That’s a big upgrade in pass rush for ATL.
Not clear what ATL will do to fit Simmons and Judon under the cap. They probably already have a verbal agreement with Judon for an extension. I think the easiest spot to free up some money would be to extend AJ Terrell, who is on the last year of his rookie deal.
I’m likely going to have a couple of Falcons games with 2 tickets available. Not all the regulars have chimed in yet, and they get first dibs. I’ll post here with what’s available in a couple weeks if you are interested
vikings sign stephon gilmore for $7M. They had $19M in sal cap for the year. 1st rd QB pick out for year and are rolling with sam darnold. this might take them from a 5 win team to a 7 win team?
I guess their CB depth was empty before the signing. But that’s what waiver claims are for in their situation IMO
Looks like the Falcons games where I will probably have 2 tickets available are NYG and Cowboys. Will offer them up at face value here before I sell them online.
11/3 vs Cowboys $235 each
12/22 vs NYG $170 each
You would also be invited to tailgate if you like. I’m cooking.
