2024 MLB Baseball Thread

Update! MLB has reversed their claim on like the whole library of videos.

By most accounts, the videos rise to fair use. Also, mlb apparently blasts such issues out once a year (per a jomboy podcast where he discussed this and rasised support and attention for CCS and fuzzy and others).

So…game on!

The White Sox seem to be the only team that my Jays can consistently beat this year so thank goodness for the White Sox (although a lot of other teams are saying the same thing). Sadly they have already played their quota of six games this year so no more wins coming from the WS for the Jays.

The White Sox attendance is down to Tampa Bay levels and for good reason. There’s literally no reason to watch this team. Last in Runs (by a large margin), BA, OBP, Slugging, HR and second to last in ERA, WHIP. Their only star has been injured all season, the 2 players with the most at bats (Vaughn and Benintendi) both have BA < .200 and are hugely disappointing, Moncada and Jimenez aren’t living up to expectations and are always injured, and I can’t identify any players who will be part of the long term solution other than Garret Crochet. /end rant

Regardless, I plan on bringing my 1 year old to his first game this summer.

They looked liked they had a bright future not too long ago. Things went south(side) fast for them.

Planning to get them to hate early, eh?

The White Sox are back on a record-setting pace.

Tucupita Marcano gets lifetime MLB ban for betting on baseball - ESPN

Wow, that is a shitty return!

I feel a bit bad for Kelly who placed bets totaling under $100 back in 2021 when his was in the low minors. But I guess rules are rules and there is no minimum dollar limit. I think he and the other 3 that got 1 year bans all bet less than $1,000.

The only thing I am surprised about is that no one is blaming MLB for allowing gambling to become such a part of the game and then acting all righteous when someone is caught gambling.

If you allow gambling to seep into every broadcast and the constant message that we are hearing is that playing the parlay is an integral part of watching the sport then of course there will be someone who is caught up in the gambling.

On TBS last night, the announcers were saying that his getting banned for life was -140, not getting banned for life was +120. Join now! First bet is free!

I listened to a whole White Sox game a few days ago. One thing I noticed was that the advertising now features some ads with “Official xxxxx of the Chicago Cubs” at the end. I suppose that’s a sign that they’re not able to sell their own sponsorship anymore. A few years ago, I’d have thought that the idea of any advertiser claiming that to be the official Cubs sponsor on a Sox broadcast was a horrible idea and would annoy fans more than anything, but at this point it doesn’t seem to matter.

For fun I’ve been pulling for a record pace of losses. It’s clearly pretty tough to maintain a .250 winning percentage (which isn’t a percentage at all. why do they call it that?). If they take just 3 out of 4 in a series, they need a long losing streak to counteract the wins. They’re still pretty close to being on pace, but I doubt they can keep up the pace for the whole season.

I agree it’s unlikely, but if they trade Crochet, Fedde and Robert, I wouldn’t bet against them.

Yeah, it wasn’t pretty from what I’ve heard. Things are very different now, but still could be better.

sharing a blunt truth. non-disney version for sure. liked how he admitted he needed his friends to calm him bc otherwise he’d have thrown hands. and young reggie…would have f’d people up.

Spahn loses the game, lowers his ERA.
And only two strikeouts.

It probably gets an asterisk now. It might have been over in 10 with the ghost runner. And in that case, it would have been surpassed by the double no-hitter game.

Happens way too often: a pitcher breaks his hand and goes on the DL after punching a dugout wall.
